DESCRIPTION

The Armonk Players are seeking non-union performers for the world-premiere production of Senator Scrooge: An American Christmas Carol! This is a brand new musical that has never been performed on stage before.
This is an exceptional opportunity to collaborate directly with industry professionals during the development of a brand-new musical. Performers will work hands-on with the original creative team, including Tony-nominated & Drama Desk Award-winning book writer Peter Kellogg (Desperate Measures, Monte Cristo), alongside the original composer, John Riley.

Seeking: Versatile non-union actors with fantastic singing ability, solid acting technique, and confident movement skills for principal and supporting roles. Full character breakdown below.
SYNOPSIS:
Set in the fast-paced world of contemporary politics, Senator Scrooge: An American Christmas Carol offers a sharp, modern twist on Dickens’ classic tale of greed, power, and redemption.

IMPORTANT DATES:*
First Rehearsal: First week of November, but there will be a few dates in October scheduled to learn music. Rehearses in Armonk, NY within 7-10 PM range.
Tech: December
Shows: December 10, 11, 12, & 13, with a possible extension to December 17,18, & 19.

* Please bring any conflicts to auditions and note that rehearsal times may vary. You MUST be available for all shows and tech week to audition.

CASTING BREAKDOWN:

SENATOR SCROOGE THIS ROLE IS CAST
  • Gender/Age: Male-Identifying, 45–70

  • Ethnicity: Caucasian

  • Vocal Range: Baritone with high G belt (Must sing in tune; strong character singing over vocal agility).

  • Description: Jaded, bad-tempered, and crotchety, yet inherently comic and endearing in his nastiness. Must balance razor-sharp cynicism with a relatable, underlying capacity for redemption.

ROBERTA CRATCHIT
  • Gender/Age: Female-Identifying, Mid-30s-Early-50s

  • Ethnicity: African-American

  • Vocal Range: Powerhouse belt/mix (Strong chest belt to C#; strong mix up to G). Featured solos include "Amazing Grace" and "Wayfaring Stranger."

  • Description: Scrooge’s long-suffering secretary. Grounded, resilient, and possesses a thrilling, show-stopping vocal instrument with massive range and power.

SENATOR MARLEY
  • Gender/Age: Male-Identifying, Stage Age 50s–60s (actor can be younger)

  • Ethnicity: Open (likely Caucasian)

  • Vocal Range: High Rock Tenor / High Belt (Powerful rock mix/falsetto up to Eb; also raps). Note: Transposition down an octave to high baritone is possible for the right actor.

  • Description: Larger-than-life, scary, and darkly comic. Needs exceptional vocal stamina for high-sustained rock vocals, high-energy rap, and strong comic timing.

FRED / YOUNG SCROOGE THIS ROLE IS CAST. Solid, pleasing high-baritone/tenor; plays a younger, idealistic version of Scrooge and Scrooge's modern-day nephew.

JENNY / DEB
  • Gender/Age: Female-Identifying, Late 20s–30s

  • Ethnicity: Open

  • Vocal Range: Solid, pleasing legit soprano or belter.

  • Description: Dual role. JENNY: Young Scrooge’s first wife—sweet, loving, and deeply earnest. DEB: Fred’s wife—a sharp, no-nonsense liberal feminist.

FIRST GHOST
  • Gender/Age: Female-Identifying, Stage Age 60s–70s (actor can be younger)

  • Ethnicity: Open

  • Vocal Range: Legit Soprano or Belter.

  • Description: Very comic, slightly daft, wryly rueful, and nostalgic. Strong physical comedy skills.

SECOND GHOST
  • Gender/Age: Male-Identifying, Mid-20s-40s

  • Ethnicity: Hispanic / Latino

  • Vocal Range: Solid Baritone.

  • Description: Imposing yet humorously intimidating. Strong movement ability; knowledge of salsa dancing is a plus.

TINY TIM
    • Gender/Age: Male-Identifying, Stage Age ~17

    • Ethnicity: African-American

    • Vocal Range: Tenor preferred.

  • Description: Son of Roberta Cratchit. Preferably of tall stature (6 ft ). Ability to play the violin/fiddle, trumpet or trombone a plus!

REVEREND
  • Gender/Age: Male-Identifying, 30s-50s

  • Ethnicity: African-American

  • Vocal Range: Baritone with a rich, resonant tone.

  • Description: Warm, charismatic, and commanding presence.

THIRD GHOST
  • Gender/Age: Female, 8-12.

  • Ethnicity: Open

  • Vocal Range: Ensemble singer (must sing in key).

  • Description: Young girl with one spoken line. Strong dance ability required; tap skills are a major plus.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS:

VIDEO AUDITION SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE by Monday, August 24. No in-person audition/callback invites will go out until all videos are viewed as pre-screens. Auditions will be scheduled for the week of September 1.
WHAT TO PREPARE AND UPLOAD:
  • Vocal Video (Required): Please record and submit a video of 16–32 bars of a song that best showcases your vocal range and storytelling ability. Accompaniment or background track preferred. In your recording, slate your name & union status. Make sure we see as much of you in the video as possible. Be sure that there are no editing or vocal effects added to your vocal recording.

  • Movement / Dance Footage (Optional, but Strongly Encouraged): Please upload a dance reel, movement clip, or any video footage demonstrating your movement or dance ability.

  • Headshot & Resume (Required): Include your current headshot and resume (in one PDF file) with your submission.

  • How to Submit: Upload your videos to YouTube or Vimeo and send them via email as a URL link. Please NO PASSWORD-PROTECTED videos or downloads.
