Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Substance Abuse Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. Responsibilities
- Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral health interventions, and applied behavior analysis (ABA).
- Provide individual, group, and family counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, mental health management, and behavior modification strategies.
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to enhance clients’ motivation for change and sustain engagement in treatment programs.
- Manage crisis situations effectively through crisis intervention and crisis management skills, ensuring client safety and stabilization.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation, patient records, and progress notes in compliance with HIPAA regulations and medical terminology standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including case managers, medical professionals, and community resources to coordinate care and support clients’ transition from hospital or home settings back into the community.
- Participate in ongoing research activities related to addiction medicine, behavioral health practices, and diagnostic evaluation methods to stay current with industry standards.
Experience
- Proven experience in addiction counseling or clinical mental health counseling within hospital or community care environments.
- Demonstrated expertise in psychotherapy modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), social work practices, and behavior management techniques.
- Familiarity with crisis intervention protocols, trauma-informed care including PTSD care strategies, and case management processes.
- Knowledge of medical records management, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding for billing purposes, and medical documentation standards.
- Experience conducting intake assessments, patient care planning, and diagnostic evaluations for diverse populations including children & families when applicable.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA compliance requirements related to patient privacy and data collection procedures.
- Ability to work effectively with patients experiencing complex behavioral health issues while demonstrating empathy, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity. Qualifications:
- Current CSAC certification registered with the board (VA)
- Bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology, social work, or related field (preferred, may vary by state)
- Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders
- Knowledge of evidence-based treatment practices (e.g., CBT, Motivational Interviewing)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Pay: $26.43 - $31.84 per hour
