Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Skills Trainer/Employment Specialist to prepare students for successful employment and support them throughout their paid work experiences.
Responsibilities
● Deliver classroom-based Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) components:
○ Job exploration counseling
○ Workplace readiness training
○ Self-advocacy instruction
○ Counseling on post-secondary education and training opportunities
● Facilitate instruction in a group setting during three pre-employment weeks and three post-employment weeks.
● Conduct vocational interest inventories and work with each student to establish an individualized career pathway goal.
● Provide on-site skills training and coaching throughout each student’s 150-hour paid work experience.
● Conduct regular worksite visits to monitor student performance and provide support.
● Accurately document student participation, work hours, progress, and outcomes.
● Coordinate benefits counseling before students begin their paid work experiences.
● Communicate regularly with students, families, employers, school personnel, and other members of the support team.
● Help students develop workplace confidence, independence, communication skills, and appropriate professional behaviors.
● Identify and address barriers that may affect a student’s success in the workplace.
● Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of Associates degree in human services, social work, psychology, education, vocational rehabilitation, or a related field preferred
- Experience working with students or individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
- Experience providing employment services, vocational training, job coaching, classroom instruction, or transition services is strongly preferred
- Ability to provide engaging group instructions and individualized, hands-on workplace support
- Strong organizational, communication, documentation, and time-management skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, employers, and community partners
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel to worksites throughout the service area
Benefits
