The Arc Greater Hudson Valley is a not-for-profit agency dedicated to providing support and services to over 1,800 people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and to their families in Sullivan, Orange and Dutchess Counties, New York. A chapter of The Arc New York, our main offices are located at 162 East Broadway in Monticello, NY.
Our agency offers a broad range of services including Residential Services, Clinical Services, Day Services, Family Support Services, Guardianship Services, Employment Services, Recreation and more. Our mission is to support people with unique abilities to live as valued and contributing members of the community.
As a DSPR you will be providing individualized, person-centered, skills training and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities in home and community settings. This position is great for those who want to come to work and make a difference in people's lives every day.
There is no experience in this field required. We offer paid training.
A Glimpse into the life of a Direct Support Professional:
Start your day by assisting the people we support get ready for their day, greet them when they come home after attending program or working at their community-based job, working together to prepare dinner and clean up, assist them getting ready for bed and doing household chores. When your day or evening or night is done, sit back and think of what you have accomplished and how you feel in assisting the people we provide supports and services to. You've made a difference in someone's life.

Job Summary:
The Direct Support Professional supports individuals with developmental disabilities to have a quality of life. To promote health, safety, and well-being of individuals. A Direct Support Professional serves as an advocate for individuals in communicating their needs and goals.
Expectations: The Direct Support Professional shall exhibit the following:
· Communication: As a DSP you will be responsible for communicating with individuals, other staff members, and management. It is important to be able to communicate information clearly and concisely.
· Time Management: Time management is the ability to plan and execute tasks within a set timeframe. DSP's must have strong time management skills will help you complete yours tasks efficiently, meet deadlines, and ensure the safety of the individuals under your supervision.
· Problem-solving: Problem solving is the ability to identify and resolve issues. As a DSP, being able to identify and resolve issues will help you maintain a smooth workflow and support team members in an efficient and positive manner.
· Teamwork: A DSP works with a team of other DSP's. A DSP must be able to demonstrate through action and relationships within the organization a commitment to teamwork and the agency mission.

Schedule: All shifts available. Must be available to work weekends and holidays if necessary.
Qualifications:
One year experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred. Valid driver's license for at least one year required.
