Veterinary & Lodge Assistant

Full-Time Position (30–34 Hours Per Week)

Position Summary

The Veterinary & Lodge Assistant is a hybrid position designed to support both the veterinary clinic and the pet lodge. Team members in this role assist wherever they are needed to help provide excellent patient care, outstanding customer service, and a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for pets and their families.

This position offers a variety of responsibilities and opportunities to learn both veterinary and lodging skills. Scheduled hours may vary between the clinic and lodge departments based on staffing needs, patient care demands, boarding occupancy, and business needs. There is no guaranteed percentage of time spent in either department.

Because the veterinary clinic and lodge operate as one team, employees in this position must be willing to work in either department as assigned, including weekends and holidays when needed.

Team members must be flexible, dependable, and willing to assist wherever needed to support the success of the entire organization.

Essential Responsibilities

Veterinary Assistant Duties

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians with patient care and treatments.
  • Safely restrain animals during examinations and procedures.
  • Prepare exam rooms and treatment areas.
  • Clean, disinfect, and stock examination and treatment areas.
  • Assist with laboratory testing, radiographs, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Prepare medications and supplies as directed by veterinary staff.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintaining equipment and medical areas.

Lodge Assistant Duties

  • Feed, medicate, exercise, and monitor boarding pets.
  • Clean and sanitize kennels, suites, and common spaces.
  • Observe pets for changes in behavior, appetite, or health and report concerns.
  • Provide enrichment activities
  • Ensure pets have fresh water, clean bedding, and a comfortable environment.
  • Follow all safety and sanitation protocols.
  • Maintain cleanliness throughout the lodge facility.
  • Assist with laundry, dishes, and facility upkeep as needed.

Cross-Training Expectations

Employees in this role are expected to become proficient in both veterinary and lodge responsibilities. Training will be provided; however, team members must demonstrate the ability to perform duties in both departments as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in veterinary medicine, animal care, boarding, or customer service preferred.
  • Ability to safely handle dogs and cats of various sizes and temperaments.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Willingness to learn and work in multiple areas of the business.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform physical tasks throughout the workday.

Physical and Work Environment

This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, and animal handling. Team members may be exposed to:

  • Animal dander, hair, and bodily fluids.
  • Cleaning chemicals and disinfectants.
  • Loud noises from barking dogs and other animals.
  • Scratches, bites, and other occupational hazards associated with animal care.
  • Wet floors, outdoor weather conditions, and physical activity throughout the workday.

Schedule and Availability

  • Full-time position averaging 30–34 hours per week.
  • Schedules may include morning, afternoon, weekend, and holiday shifts.
  • Hours may vary based on clinic appointments, boarding occupancy, staffing needs, and business demands.
  • Employees should expect to work in both the veterinary clinic and the lodge as assigned.
  • Rotating weekend and holiday shifts are required as part of this position to ensure appropriate patient and boarding pet care.
  • Additional hours may be available during peak boarding seasons, holidays, and other high-demand periods.

Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential due to the direct impact this position has on patient care, boarding pets, and overall team operations.
