We are looking for a detail-oriented and strategically minded Assistant Plant Manager. As a key member of the Plant Management team, the Assistant Plant Manager will play a pivotal role in supporting the Plant Manager by supervising and coordinating the activities of production workers engaged in the treatment and disposal of waste at the plant. This leader will ensure all production goals and permit obligations are met in compliance with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations, while maintaining operational efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance. The role demands not only technical expertise in waste management and processing but also strong leadership, process optimization, and team development skills to drive continuous improvement across plant operations.
This position is not open to inquiries from staffing firms or external recruiters.
Responsibilities
Inbound
- Perform periodic audits and review of inbound containers and provide feedback to appropriate management.
- Oversee inbound 10-day management processes, ensuring alignment with company goals and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee waste receiving processes, ensuring compliance with company goals and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with company goals and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee waste acceptance processes, ensuring compliance with company goals and regulatory requirements.
Waste Processing
- Process waste, ensuring efficient and compliant operations.
- Maintain efficient paperwork flow to maximize production and profitability.
- Oversee waste processing and treatment processes, ensuring compliance with company goals and regulatory requirements.
Outbound
- Oversee outbound shipping processes, ensuring compliance with company goals and regulatory requirements.
Plant Management
- Develop and implement cost management plans, ensuring efficiency and compliance. Generate weekly and monthly production summaries for review by Plant leadership.
- Oversee facilities management processes and budgets, ensuring compliance with company goals and regulatory requirements.
- Implement and monitor KPI goals for operations.
- Generate and submit Capital Expense requests.
- Maintain facilities and manage facility budgets to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards.
- Manage supply inventory, ensuring availability and compliance with operational needs.
- Direct, coach, and develop employees to meet operational needs and compliance with company policies.
- Assign required and recommend training to build an effective and efficient staff.
- Manage assets, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction, both internally and externally.
- Implement safety protocols and compliance measures to ensure operational efficiency and regulatory adherence.
- Perform other related duties and project work as required or requested.
Experience and Skill Requirements
Education
- B.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Environmental-related field preferred, or equivalent related work experience.
- 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training completed and current, or ability to obtain.
Experience
- 5 years of progressive environmental/hazardous waste management experience in operations, receiving waste, or materials management.
- Experience in the hazardous waste industry with general knowledge of RCRA and Department of Transportation (DoT) regulations preferred.
- Understanding of waste profiling and tracking related to inventory acceptance and outbound shipping.
- Experience in facilities management and productivity/safety improvement practices.
Skills
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to waste management preferred.
- Understanding of safety, lockout/tagout, and compliance protocols.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop actionable improvements from data.
- Understanding of financial principles and cost management.

Physical Requirements and Workplace Conditions
- Required to wear company-provided personal protective equipment (PPE) including eye protection, foot protection, hard hat, Tyvek coveralls, and respirator.
- Willingness and ability to travel via automobile, commercial airline, and other public transportation as needed (10% or less).
- Must be able to pass a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) background check when required.

- Employee must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods and occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds.
- Work is performed primarily in a plant environment, with occasional time outdoors. Safety glasses and closed-toe shoes are always required in plant or warehouse areas.
