Ward 4 West A is a 20-bed ward providing specialist care to renal, vascular, endocrine, and rheumatology patients. The Acute Dialysis Unit (ADU) is an integral part of the Alfred Renal Service, providing dialysis for new and acute patients, those requiring hospitalisation, respite, or highly complex care. ADU is co-located with Ward 4 West A (4WA) and has seven dialysis points of care.
The Alfred Specialty Medicine Program within the Operations Division comprises six clinical units, including Clinical Genetics and Genomics, Dermatology, Endocrine and Diabetes, Gastroenterology, Renal, and Rheumatology. The program provides admitted services, including multi-day care (Ward 4WA) and same-day dialysis services (The Alfred, Caulfield, and Sandringham campuses), as well as specialist outpatient and ambulatory services.

The Role
Responsibilities
The Ward Clerk is responsible for coordinating communication, patient services, and clerical functions as directed by the Nurse Manager. Responsibilities include:
- Filing and clerical duties
- Updating and maintaining ward boards or patient lists
- Communicating patient discharge, transfer, and condition information to the Enquiry Office and Admitting Officer (via computer or telephone)
- Maintaining supplies of patient identification labels
- Maintaining ward stationery supplies
- Arranging collection of X-rays and medical equipment as required
- Organising the collection and delivery of equipment
- Organising maintenance requests (“job dockets”)
- Updating indexes of hospital policy manuals and directives
- General typing duties
Experience and Qualifications Required
- Recent experience as a Ward Clerk in a healthcare setting
- Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical practice
- Good communicator, clerical, typing and computer skills.
- Formal training in Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel)
