PAYROLL ACCOUNTANT
Reports to: Corporate Controller
Status: Regular, Full-time, Non-Exempt
Location: Anchorage, AK (Hybrid)
JOB SUMMARY: The Payroll Accountant oversees all aspects of payroll processing to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payment of wages for a multi state workforce. This role manages payroll calculations, tax filings, benefit and retirement deductions, certified payroll reporting, and general ledger reconciliations, while supporting internal and external audits.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Prepare payroll tax deposits and returns for multi-state payrolls.
- Prepare reports and payments for employer and employee paid benefit costs such as union dues, pension, health insurance, flexible spending, and workers compensation.
- Interpret company policies and government regulations in connection with payroll and tax procedures.
- Perform all aspects of payroll including processing of timecards, maintaining payroll control records, calculating, and verifying the accuracy of payroll data.
- Ensure proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, and other deductions.
- Prepare and submit certified payroll filings in compliance with federal, state and prevailing wage requirements for applicable projects.
- Support and coordinate the annual 401(k) plan audit, including preparation of requested schedules and reconciliation of payroll contributions.
- Review and validate the accuracy of flow of payroll postings to the general ledger and supports reconciliation of payroll accounts.
- Support DCCA requirements and audits.
- Support all internal and external audits.
- Provide ad hoc management reports and analysis.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to meet deadlines; maintain attention to detail and accuracy.
- Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
- Knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
- Knowledge of financial and accounting software applications.
- Professional intrapersonal and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Thorough understanding of generally accepted auditing standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; OR equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training.
- Three (3) years of experience as a payroll accountant or similar role.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with Cost Point, Sage Intacct and UKG
- Experience working in government contracting and Davis Bacon labor standards.
- Experience preparing certified payroll reports
- Experience working with Alaska Native Corporations (ANC’s).
