The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a full-time General Engineer (Technical Expert) NH-0801-04 to work at Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), Air Force Sustainment Center (AFSC). This federal job offers a rewarding and exciting career with benefits.

2026 Salary Range is $125,776 - $192,331 yearly (includes locality).

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Automation and Human Factors Engineering Technical Expert within the Air Force Sustainment Center Engineering and Technical Management Directorate.

DUTIES:

- The AFSC/EN Automation and Human Factors technical expert will support all AFSC organizations at Hill AFB, Robins AFB, and Tinker AFB (ABW, ALCs, Supply Chain, and Software) and represent AFSC/EN in AFMC level working groups.

- Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with counterparts or management officials at AFMC Centers, HQ AFMC, HQ USAF, DoD, other agencies, academia, or with contractor engineering specialists.

- Apply expert knowledge and mastery of advanced engineering theories, principles, concepts, standards, and methods to research and resolve highly complex technical challenges and accelerate production and maintenance processes.

- Provide highly complex technical consultation to senior leadership, internal customers, and external partners, including industry and academia, on matters of automation and human factors engineering, as well as program oversight and direction, shaping the strategic direction of engineering initiatives related to automation and human factors.

- Represent the organization on inter-agency committees and coordinating groups, influencing long-range planning for future projects involving automation and human systems integration.

- Leads teams and/or independently investigates new techniques and methodologies, developing and implementing policies and strategic approaches for their application and assessing the impact of emerging automation technologies on current systems and creating mitigation plans for identified risks.

- Performs complex and comprehensive analyses and uses systematic, disciplined, quantifiable approaches to determine performance objectives and integration issues.

- Implements, develops, and documents projects; ascertains needed changes or modifications to production methods, procedures, and/or approaches; and documents systems requirements.

- Researches and determines or recommends appropriate actions or interpretation of issues that impact organization, installation, command, or agency.

- Clearly defines the advantages and disadvantages of proposed approaches and strategic initiatives.

- Deliver presentations on project/program/technology/requirements status, accomplishment, challenges encountered and anticipated, support requirements, technical developments, program changes, etc. and the interpretation and advocacy of engineering programs, projects and requirement objectives.

- Develops and maintains action plans used to achieve short and long-range efficiency goals and creates necessary processes and procedures to monitor and improve operations.

- Mentor and guide our engineers and scientists, enhancing the organization's collective technical expertise in automation and human-centric design processes.

- Accomplish AFSC/EN special projects, taskers, and suspenses as directed. Provides status in weekly stand-up meetings with branch, and bi-monthly updates with the directorate.

- Periodic travel for temporary duty (TDY) may be needed to support projects and symposiums to remain knowledgeable of new capabilities and technologies.

Recruitment Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

- Mastery of advanced concepts, principles and practices in professional engineering which enables the incumbent to serve as an authoritative expert and consultant in the full range of systems and engineering functions.

- Expert knowledge of advanced engineering concepts, principles and practices that enable the incumbent to serve as an expert in the full range of system engineering functions as well as the ability to incorporate necessary training in program initiatives to meet mission needs.

- Advanced knowledge of DoD, AFMC, AFSC structure, missions, roles, programs, mission areas, enterprise, and organizational relationships.

- Advanced knowledge of weapons hazard analysis techniques, hazardous operations, engineering drawings and equipment design criteria regarding systems engineering and system safety engineering requirements.

- Ability to gather, organize, analyze and integrate facts, draw conclusions and devise solutions in extremely complex engineering areas.

- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in the capacity of spokesperson for the Squadron/Branch. Must also communicate with mid- and top-level decision makers within the maintenance environment, his/her superiors, peers and personnel at the working level on issues related to engineering.

- Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions of an organization, and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff through subordinate supervisors, as well as analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.

- Employee must meet the education and specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Professional and Scientific Positions (Master's degree preferred.):

- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance as a condition of employment

- Could be subject to random testing for drug use

- Periodic travel for temporary duty (TDY) may be needed to support workload

- Designated as an acquisition position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP)
