AI POLICY NETWORK (AIPN) Role Details


  • Location: Washington, D.C.
  • Compensation: $140,000 - $180,000
  • Reports to: President of Government Affairs


I. POSITION SUMMARY


The Director of Government Affairs is a mid-career role focused on House engagement in support of AIPN's mission to prepare America for artificial superintelligence and advance responsible AI policy. Working with the President of Government Affairs, this position executes House-specific legislative strategy and translates AIPN's AI policy priorities into concrete legislative outcomes.


The ideal candidate brings deep relationships within the House, a strong policy background, and the ability to navigate complex technology policy debates on Capitol Hill.


II. RESPONSIBILITIES


A. Congressional Engagement (House Focus)


  • Build and maintain relationships with House leadership, committee chairs, and key staff.
  • Cultivate relationships with members and staff on relevant committees, including Energy & Commerce, Science/Space/Technology, Armed Services, Foreign Affairs, Judiciary, and Appropriations.
  • Organize briefings, hearings, and roundtables with House members on AI policy issues.
  • Provide real-time intelligence on House floor schedules, committee mark-ups, and amendment opportunities.
  • Represent AIPN at Capitol Hill meetings, coalition gatherings, and industry events.


B. Strategic Advocacy


  • Develop and execute House-specific legislative strategies aligned with AIPN's policy agenda.
  • Coordinate with the President of Government Affairs on the overall government affairs roadmap.
  • Identify legislative windows and opportunities for AI policy advancement.
  • Build coalitions with allied organizations, trade associations, and external lobbyists.
  • Track and analyze relevant legislation, regulations, and executive actions.


C. Policy Development


  • Draft model bill language, amendments, hearing questions, questions for the record, and talking points for House members and staff in collaboration with AIPN’s policy team and partners.
  • Produce policy memos, briefing materials, and one-pagers tailored to House audiences.
  • Ensure legislative proposals are technically sound and politically viable.
  • Collaborate with AIPN's research and communications teams to align messaging.


III. QUALIFICATIONS


A. Required


  • 5 years of experience in federal government affairs, lobbying, or senior House staff roles.
  • Demonstrated relationships with House leadership and relevant committee staff.
  • Experience with technology, AI, national security, or related policy areas.
  • Professional experience in politics, policy organizations, or think tanks.
  • Strong understanding of the legislative process, particularly House rules and procedures.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including briefing senior officials.
  • Bachelor's degree.


B. Preferred


  • Strong understanding of the appropriations process, the National Defense Authorization Act, and the budgeting process. 
  • Track record of advancing legislation or policy initiatives on Capitol Hill.
  • Advanced degree in law, public policy, or related field.
