Overview
Thacker Casket Manufacturing is the largest family owned casket manufacturing company in the United States and has been in business since 1939. Thacker Casket Manufacturing employs about 165 team members at our 300,000 sq. ft. facility in Florence, Alabama and produces funeral products, mainly caskets, for funeral homes across the country.
To achieve that vision, we are hiring a Maintenance Helper. The position is full time with normal work hours 5:30am-4:00pm, Monday-Thursday and possible overtime on Fridays depending on market conditions. If no overtime is required, the employees enjoy a three day weekend.
Duties
- Assist with routine inspections and preventive maintenance of HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical equipment, and facilities infrastructure.
- Support skilled technicians with repairs involving programmable logic controllers (PLCs), electrical, welding, carpentry, and maintenance painting.
- Use hand tools, schematics, ohmmeters, and other diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot issues and perform repairs on electrical and mechanical systems.
- Aid in maintaining plumbing systems, including repairs and system upgrades to ensure optimal operation.
- Participate in building interior maintenance tasks such as drywall repair, painting (including residential painting), and general facility upkeep.
- Follow safety protocols during all maintenance activities and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Assist with inventory management of maintenance supplies and tools related to maintenance, repair and operations (MRO).
Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical work, plumbing, HVAC systems, and building interior maintenance.
- Experience with maintenance, repair operations (MRO), schematics reading, and troubleshooting electrical equipment using tools like ohmmeters.
- Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), HVAC system repair, welding techniques, carpentry skills, and electrical equipment repair is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills in English for clear documentation and collaboration with team members.
- Ability to operate hand tools safely and efficiently while adhering to safety standards.
- Knowledge of facilities equipment maintenance including plumbing system repairs and HVAC system troubleshooting.
Pay: $19.00 per hour
