What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recovery Specialist position at TEXELL CREDIT UNION?
Texell, named one of the BEST credit unions to work for in the nation by American Banker, is seeking a Recovery Specialist to lead our post charge-off recovery efforts within the Collections Department.
This role is ideal for a detail oriented, self directed professional who is comfortable navigating legal processes, negotiating directly with members and attorneys, and representing the Credit Union in small claims court.
As a Recovery Specialist, you will:
- Recover post charge-off balances through direct member and attorney contact, negotiating settlement agreements and structured payment arrangements prior to or in lieu of litigation.
- Identify appropriate cases for judgment filing, screen for bankruptcy, and confirm files contain the documentation necessary to obtain judgments.
- Prepare and file petitions in Justice of the Peace or small claims court, ensure proper service on defendants, and represent the Credit Union at hearings to obtain judgments.
- Obtain and renew Writs of Execution and Abstracts of Judgment as applicable.
- Refer cases exceeding JP jurisdiction or requiring greater legal complexity to outside counsel, subject to management approval, and monitor outside counsel billing for accuracy.
- Respond to bankruptcy filings, prepare reaffirmation agreements and proofs of claim, post bankruptcy payments, and ensure adherence to bankruptcy plans.
- Pursue deficiency balances remaining after an insurance total-loss settlement has been applied and the account has progressed to charge-off.
- Report regularly to management on judgment and recovery pipeline performance, including both oral updates and written reports.
We're looking for someone who has:
- Two to five years of similar or related experience, including time spent in preparatory positions.
- A two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school.
- The confidence to represent the Credit Union in small claims court, including comfort with public speaking.
- Strong negotiation, organizational, and independent work skills.
- The ability to communicate professionally with people across a wide range of backgrounds, including outside attorneys, on matters of some legal complexity.
- Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential legal and financial matters.
