What are the responsibilities and job description for the Correctional LVN position at Texas Tech Univ Health Sciences Ctr?
Employees in this classification are responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities in an assigned correctional facility. They function within their legal scope of practice and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organization and practice setting. Work is performed under the direction of a registered nurse as part of a total correctional managed health care team in providing safe and competent care to patients.
- Provides direct nursing services to patients in the health facility following standards of care of the department. Timely, concisely, and appropriately documents activities in patients’ health records.
- Ensures clinical health equipment and technology is in good working order, and maintains equipment according to departmental standards. Including operational use, cleaning/sterilization protocols. Immediately reports inoperable equipment per departmental standards.
- Assistance in exams and procedures is conducted within the RN scope of practice. All activities are clearly, concisely documented in patients’ health records. Specimens taken during exam or procedure are labeled at patient's bedside.
- Ensures patient medications are administered following clinical and compliance policies and procedures. Activities are documented clearly and concisely in medication systems and patients’ health records timely and accurately.
- Receives, documents, assesses, and responds to patient care requests according to policy and standards of the department. Clearly, concisely, and timely documents activities in the patient’s health records.
- Nursing rounds will be performed per department standards; any and all complaints are documented in patients’ health records. Additional healthcare needs are requested as needed.
- Oversees the clinical practice of LVNs and other clinical personnel in the health facility
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in the job classification and/or position description
