What are the responsibilities and job description for the Postdoctoral Fellow – Chemistry position at Texas State University?
Postdoctoral Fellow – Chemistry
Start Date: September 2026
Location: Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Texas State University
Position Type: Full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellowship
Description: Our research focuses on the fundamental chemistry and applications of synthetic carbon allotropes and their hybrids, particularly endohedral metallofullerenes (EMFs). Compared to empty fullerenes, EMFs offer unique advantages due to their ability to encapsulate diverse metal species, undergo exohedral functionalization, and exhibit remarkable metal-cage interactions and novel bonding motifs within the confined fullerene structure. The versatility conferred by these characteristics endow EMFs with multifunctional properties, making them promising candidates for molecular device fabrication with applications in biomedical technologies, single-molecule magnets, electrocatalysis and electronic devices.
We are actively seeking talented researchers interested in organic synthesis, crystallography, and electrocatalysis. Candidates with prior research experience in fullerene or metallofullerene chemistry are especially encouraged to apply.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Strong background in organic or supramolecular synthesis, multi-stage HPLC separation, or electrochemistry.
- Demonstrated expertise in single-crystal X-ray structure refinement, or electrocatalytic measurements.
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with particular attention to accurate laboratory documentation and reporting.
- High level of scientific curiosity, independence, and commitment to collaborative research.
