Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers with manual transmission across designated routes, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Load and unload freight using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or roll-off trucks, ensuring cargo is secured properly for transit.
- Transport a variety of cargo including flatbeds, tankers, and freight loads, maintaining proper handling procedures for each type.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer to identify mechanical issues or safety concerns before departure and after arrival.
- Manage route driving efficiently, optimizing delivery schedules while maintaining compliance with hours-of-service regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, customers, and warehouse personnel to coordinate pickups, deliveries, and any route adjustments needed.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, delivery records, and vehicle maintenance reports in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
Experience
- Proven experience as a commercial driver with a valid CDL A license; previous truck driving experience preferred.
- Familiarity with operating manual transmission trucks and handling various trailer types such as refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, and roll-off trucks.
- Experience in load & unload procedures using forklifts or other loading equipment is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of safety protocols related to trucking operations, cargo securement, and vehicle maintenance.
- Delivery driver experience involving route driving across urban or rural areas is advantageous.
- Ability to perform detailed vehicle inspections and basic troubleshooting for mechanical issues.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with team members and clients throughout the delivery process.
