General Information

The Workforce Development Manager collaborates with the Director of Workforce Development to help implement the Association’s workforce strategies. This role includes managing educational training and programs, coordinating certification efforts, and building strong relationships with schools and industry professionals. Additionally, the Manager oversees the TNLA Online Career Center and Endorsed Certification Programs offered by the Association.

Essential Duties

  • Work with the Director of Workforce Development in developing and implementing the Association’s workforce development strategies and goals.
  • Assist with comprehensive assessments to understand Green Industry professional’s skills, interests and barriers to employment.
  • Assist with launching and maintaining documentation needed for the TNLA’s Compensation Study.
  • Assist professionals in accessing necessary resources, such as TNLA Educational programs, Certifications and online education offerings.
  • Assist with providing certification training for degreed and non-degreed professionals, including high school students.
  • Enhance relationships with high schools, universities and students.
  • Offer ongoing teacher customer service and coordinate training for Educators on TNLA’s certification programs as needed.
  • Manage educational programming and outreach for TNLA’s Women In Horticulture program.
  • Work with community colleges and skill trade schools to implement TNLA’s curriculum and coordinate testing of the online certifications with students.
  • Provide school and teacher feedback regarding the program and its curriculum materials, conduct post-exam surveys with students and report results.
  • Assist with bi-annual review of TNLA Certification Curriculum in collaboration with the TNLA Certification Committee.
  • Assist with creating and managing an internship program.
  • Manage TNLA Online Career Center, job offerings at select events and guide professionals through job search strategies.
  • Assist in building strong productive relationships with the Texas Education Agency, FFA, and 4-H to help establish a potential workforce today and in the future.
  • Help prepare and monitor department budgets and financials.
  • Assist with projects associated with Workforce Development grants.
  • Assist the Director in approving events for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and recording hours for professionals and students in TNLA’s AMS System.
  • Curate and maintain an evolving collection of research, project, and event summaries, talking points and high-level recommendations to be deployed through a wide range of written communications, newsletters, blog posts, events and speaking opportunities for the TNLA Team.
  • Create marketing material for the program.
  • Manage the Endorsement Programs such as Prisons such as TCCJ and Windham, and Horticulture Options in Plant Sciences (HOPS) through Texas A&M University and Serenity Gardens (Veteran Program).
  • Complete all special and ongoing projects assigned by the Director and President of TNLA.
  • Other projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree is a must.
  • Two Years of full-time work experience required.
  • Strong experience in education and training preferred.
  • Good organizational, multitasking, writing, and communication skills.
  • Very strong writing skills, verbal presentation skills, and comfort level with job flexibility and multitasking.
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience in web development and various electronic communication techniques (email, etc.).
  • Other Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements

  • Project Management a Plus.
  • Drive accountability through clear communication, effective project management, and the appropriate use of metrics
  • Ability to work successfully and maintain critical deadlines in a team environment.
  • Ability to analyze and integrate information from relevant sources and incorporate changes.
  • Ability to respond to changing circumstances and priorities in a focused and timely manner.
  • Experienced in using Microsoft products such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and other multimedia software including LMS and database management and Zoom.
  • The job requires some travel.

  • Requires the ability to function at a computer either as is or with reasonable accommodation for physical disability of the hands or vision.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
