Work involves assessing students, providing individualized, competency-based instruction, and maintaining a positive teaching/learning environment in which youth are guided and encouraged to develop and fulfill their academic potential.May be required to work in excess of 40 hours per work week and/or be on call.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSPlans, prepares, and delivers instructional activities that facilitate an active learning environment.Observes and evaluates youthand#8217;s performance and development; provides appropriate feedback on work; and encourages and monitors the progress of individual students.Identifies the learning needs of students and interprets assessment information. Identifies and selects different instructional resources and methods to meet youthsand#8217; varying needs.Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities.Maintains accurate and complete records of youthsand#8217; progress and development; and updates all necessary records accurat ly and completely as required by laws and agency policies.Provides educational services to potentially aggressive/combative youth in a correctional setting with a wide variety of temperaments (volatile, aggressive, suicidal) and specialized needs (chemically dependent, sexual offenders).Treats youth with respect in all situations and the ability to react quickly and effectively to verbally and physically defuse hazardous, combative, volatile situations on an as needed basis.Keeps up to date with developments in the subject area, teaching resources, and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans.Monitors outcomes for racial, ethnic, and gender disparities and takes action to address identified disparities.Performs a variety of related duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.Performs all duties in compliance with agency safety policies and procedures:Reports safety hazards and corrects hazards when possible.

Completes required documentation in the event of an accident/injury within requested time frames.Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency attendance and leave policies.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelorand#8217;s degreeRequired:Valid Secondary Texas Teacher Certification to teach Special Education. Acceptable certifications include: Generic Special Education (High School), Secondary Generic Special Education (Grades 6-12), and/or Special Education (Early Childhood and#8211; Grade 12).

Highly qualified to teach special educationNote: Any degree, diploma, high school equivalent, or course hours required to meet minimum qualifications must be from an accredited educational institution.Pre-employment conditions require acceptable results from mandatory:pre-employment drug test;finger printing and criminal records check;

Fitness-for-Duty Assessment which may include both physical and behavior evaluations.Requirements for Continued Employment:Failure to maintain required licensure/certification will result in termination of employment.
