Position Overview
- Role: Juvenile Correctional Officer (JCO) at a secure juvenile facility. We are one of five secure facilities operated by TJJD, housing Texas' most severe juvenile offenders, including those convicted of serious felony offenses like robbery, sexual assault, and murder.
- Approach: Our department uses the Texas Model, a trauma-informed approach focused on rehabilitation, mentoring, and helping youth understand and address the trauma that often underlies their behavior.
- Key Responsibilities: Ensuring the safety and security of youth, staff, and the facility while enforcing policies and procedures.
- You must be at least 21 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Training & Schedule
- Training: All JCOs undergo an 8-week paid training program on-site, which includes policies and procedures, CPR, OC Spray, and safe restraint techniques (Handle with Care). Training hours may vary, ranging from 8-10-12-hour days, a schedule will be provided.
- Post-Training Shifts: Upon completing training, you'll work 12-hour shifts (6pm–6am or 6am–6pm) on a rotating schedule of 2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, etc. Shift assignments are based on facility needs.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: Starting pay is $4,568.72 per month, with potential for higher pay based on military experience, education, or prior corrections experience. A salary scale brochure is attached for more details.
- Overtime: Overtime opportunities are available, and pay is issued between the 10th and 15th of each month.
