I. JOB SUMMARY

Performs highly advanced peer support and case management work. Work involves coordinating and facilitating case management and program activities; facilitating interactions between peer support specialists and persons served; leading educational panels for organizational staff, committees, and communities; coordinating with volunteer programs; developing and implementing program goals, objectives, and procedures; and evaluating outcome measures. Works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

A. Participates in educational and mentor groups in compliance with Texas Peer Support Service and agency peer standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures.

B. Provides peer skills training; monitors the operation of peer support and twelve step recovery groups; and identifies community resources and assists in connecting program participants with resources and other support.

C. Compiles and maintains participant records and reports pertaining to services provided, progress, and workload statistics; and completes and reviews required documentation.

D. Coordinates and evaluates transition planning to ensure continuity of care and management of risk factors. E. Monitors the development and implementation of clients’ service treatment plans; and monitors and evaluates service delivery systems and clients’ progress.

F. Documents, reviews, and edits case records, reports, and evaluations; and monitors case management and program budgets.

  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.

III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education, Experience, and Training

1. Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.

2. Five years full-time, wage-earning advocacy, mentoring, education, counseling, or case management experience. Fifteen semester hours from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE) may be substituted for each six months of experience.

3. Volunteer service experience in a criminal justice setting preferred.

4. Current valid certification issued and recognized by the Texas Certification Board (TCB) as a Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS), Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS), Internationally Certified Peer Recovery (ICPR), Re-Entry Peer Specialist (JI-RPS), Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS), or Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS). 5. Peer Support Specialist Supervisor (PSS) from the Texas Certification Board (TCB) preferred. Must maintain valid certification for continued employment in position.

B. Knowledge and Skills

1. Knowledge of case management principles, objectives, standards, and methods.

2. Knowledge of the techniques and modalities of mentoring and an understanding of a recovery and peer support role.

3. Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.

4. Skill to train and develop supplement training materials to support state guidelines and agency need.

5. Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.

6. Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.

7. Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

8. Skill in problem-solving techniques.

9. Skill in monitoring service and treatment plans.

10. Skill in the use of computers and related equipment in a stand-alone or local area network environment.

11. Skill to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.

IV. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS WITH OR WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION

A. Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry under 15 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.

B. Conditions include working inside, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, radiant and electrical energy, working closely with others, working alone, working protracted or irregular hours, and traveling by car, van, bus, and airplane.

C. Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing only the essential functions include computer and related equipment, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone, dolly, and automobile.
