Here’s What You’ll Be Doing
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in a field relevant to assignment.
OR
Experience in the management of a business function, division, or department to include professional management experience where primary duties consists of planning organizing, controlling, and directing the work of an organization or formal subdivision, or team.
OR
Experience as a special assistant to a TCEQ director or deputy director developing management policies and directing/evaluating operations.
Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

Here’s What You’ll Be Doing
- Oversee division activities, provide guidance on procedural methods, and consult on division strategic planning activities. Oversee division programs to ensure accurate and timely processing of division tasks, program performance standards, and standard operating procedures. Oversee and manage division projects as assigned.
- Communicate regulatory and technical information related to drinking water programs and other technical issues to staff, federal and state officials, internal and external stakeholders, public, and regulated community.
- Provide leadership and management oversight of staff. Participate in or conduct the interview and selection of new employees, develop performance plans, assign, assess staff performance, and supervise work of employees. Participate in staff development activities and performance management activities for the division, as well as develop and administer future advancement for staff.
- Monitor and emphasize the division’s customer service to internal and external customers; define and evaluate quality standards to improve organizational performance. Assist in the coordination of activities in response to emergency events or other types of assistance related to public water system operations.
- Evaluate the implications of new developments and proposed legislation and their effect upon division operations; provide testimony regarding introduced legislation and new state and federal proposed rulemaking and assess their effect upon the division.
- Assist with managing division budgets, expenditures, grants, and contracts.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with personnel or project management, which includes senior level planning, and/or training and directing the work of staff/supervising others.
- Experience working with the regulatory requirements, technical aspects, compliance and enforcement of public water systems.
- Experience with emergency management (disaster response, emergency conditions, etc.).
