GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Crime Victim Services Division of the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a Victim Compensation Officer whose work will involve crime victim compensation work determining victim eligibility, extent of injury, out-of-pocket wage losses, and eligible crime victim-related expenses. Work also includes identifying and interviewing appropriate stakeholders related to a crime victimand#8217;s compensation program claim.This position may be eligible for telework once trained. Employees must have a secure, dedicated workspace with Internet service, ability to maintain a reliable consistent work schedule, and be available for weekly meetings and group collaboration via Microsoft Teams and other applications during regular business hours.Flexible work arrangements, to include flexible work schedules and/or telework, may be considered relative to business need after training.OAG employees enjoy excellent benefits along with tremendous opportunities to do important work at a large, dynamic state agency making a positive difference in the lives of Texans. Oversees and coordinates analysis of assigned claims to determine legal authority for qualification under the program.

Gathers and analyzes information to determine the extent of injuries.

Reviews evidence to determine if injuries and medical treatment are a direct result of the crime, and that the cost of such medical treatment is actual, reasonable, and necessary according to established guidelines.

Analyzes invoices to determine payment eligibility and amount to award.

Analyzes reports and records to determine out-of-pocket wage loss.

Obtains and analyzes itemized bills to determine expenses.

Identifies and interviews appropriate victim advocates, law enforcement officers, prosecutors, or other interested parties to a program claim.

Obtains proof of costs of crime scene clean-up and determines whether costs are reasonable and necessary.

Maintains knowledge of the statutes, administrative rules, and policies regarding crime victimsand#8217; compensation program-related matters.

Performs related work as assigned

Maintains Relevant Knowledge Necessary To Perform Essential Job Functions

Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule

Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information

Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; may substitute experience in the following (or closely related) fields for the required education on a year-for-year basis: claims processing, criminal justice, customer experience, social services; or interacting with persons in emotional stress or crisis

Experience in victim compensation processes or related areas; or in criminal justice, crime victim support, or social service work.

Knowledge of the Crime Victimsand#8217; Compensation Program and related rules, policies, and statutes.

Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines.

Skill in interviewing and communicating with victims, law enforcement, and medical personnel; in the use of standard office equipment; and i the use of a computer and applicable software.

Skill in building relationships with clients by using trauma-informed care principles (safety, trustworthiness, and collaboration).

Skill in effective oral and written communication.

Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making.

Ability to pass criminal background check and be eligible for access to CJIS Systems

Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor while de-escalating crises and emotionally charged situations.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback.

Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment.

Ability to provide excellent customer service.

Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG work space within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)

Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel

Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA

Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.

Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5%PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience: Two years of full-time case management experience.

Experience in a criminal justice, crime victims or social service agency.

Knowledge of the issues pertaining to victimization and the victim service delivery system in Texas.

Ability to provide guidance to other victim compensation officers and program support staff.
