The media relations manager, under direction from the assistant director of communications, manages, develops, and implements a comprehensive press and media relations strategy that promotes key messages of Mays Business School. They lead in the creation and promotion of content to increase visibility of Mays Business School, including news stories, press releases, and research spotlights. They work cross-functionally with the Marketing and Communications team as well as with subject matter experts from Mays to identify opportunities and create positive awareness for the brand and its key initiatives. This role requires excellent organizational, planning, and project management skills.

Essential Duties/Tasks
Media Relations Management
- Create, develop and implement a strategic media relations plan to help raise the national profile of Mays Business School
- Monitor media trends and track coverage to assess the impact and effectiveness of media relations efforts
- Coordinate with Texas A&M University’s media relations team on dissemination of press releases, coordination of media requests, and creation of expert videos
- Identify sponsorship opportunities with national media outlets and industry publications
- Manage media inquiries in a timely manner
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with journalists, reporters, and media outlets relevant to business education
- Create engaging and high-quality written content, including press releases, media briefs, and research spotlights
- Provide oversight, leadership, and guidance to the department on crisis issue response
- Identify opportunities and craft compelling narratives that highlight Mays Business School's achievements, research breakthroughs, and community impact
- Edit and proofread content to uphold high standards of clarity, grammar, and AP style
- Ensure all content aligns with strategic messages, brand guidelines, and university editorial style
- Lead relationship management with faculty to develop story ideas around research expertise
- Actively pitches media opportunities to various media outlets and key stakeholders.
- Train faculty experts for media opportunities
- Develop strategic plan to elevate Mays’ reputation through earned media
- Position Mays faculty and leadership as thought leaders at major academic and industry events
- Lead collaborative efforts with internal team to amplify messaging across digital platforms
- Provide guidance to Mays units on their public relations efforts
- Oversee and disseminate guidelines, best practices, and training to senior leaders and unit heads
- Proactively identify communication needs and develop communication plans
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field
- Five years of related experience including two years of related supervisory experience.
- Experience with business or academic media outlets
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex academic concepts into compelling stories
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of public relations strategies and tactics
- Expertise in AP Style
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Exceptional grammar and writing skills in narrative, short form and press release formats.
- Ability to positively and professionally interact with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills and ability to juggle multiple projects while meeting deadlines
- Ability to present complex information clearly and concisely
- Strong attention to detail
- Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications
- Walking/standing for long periods of time if participating in interviews, photo-shoots, or video shoots for Mays Business School.
- This position may direct and/or evaluate the work of others
