Effective September 1, 2026, the ABET-accredited Architectural Engineering (AREN) program will become the third academic program within the Zachry Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University.

The Zachry Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering invites applications for a full-time or part-time, non-tenure track faculty position with a 9-month appointment beginning August 24, 2026, or January 1, 2027, at the (Visiting) Lecturer, (Visiting) Senior Lecturer, (Visiting) Associate Professor of the Practice, (Visiting) Professor of the Practice, (Visiting) Instructional Assistant Professor, (Visiting) Instructional Associate Professor, (Visiting) Instructional Professor, and (Visiting) Senior Professor levels.

The successful applicant will teach primarily at the undergraduate level in support of the Architectural Engineering program; advise and mentor undergraduate students; participate in departmental activities; and serve the profession.

The successful applicant will play an important role in supporting the continued growth and development of the Architectural Engineering program at Texas A&M University. Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses related to building mechanical systems and supporting the development of the program’s Building Electrical/Power Systems subdiscipline. The anticipated teaching assignment includes AREN 330 (Mechanical Systems for Buildings) and, over time, the development and delivery of additional courses related to building electrical systems, power distribution, lighting systems, building controls, and related topics within the Architectural Engineering curriculum.

Additional responsibilities include supporting program assessment and continuous improvement efforts, collaborating with faculty across the College of Engineering, engaging with industry partners, advising and mentoring students, supporting student organizations and project teams, and participating in departmental and university service activities.

Department Information

The Zachry Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M University is among the leading civil and environmental engineering departments in the nation. The department currently includes 55 tenured and tenure-track faculty members and 22 Academic Professional Track faculty members and serves more than 900 undergraduate and 370 graduate students. Applicants must possess expertise in one or more areas related to building systems engineering, including mechanical systems, electrical systems, power distribution, lighting systems, building controls, energy systems, building commissioning, building performance, or closely related fields.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the ability to effectively teach courses equivalent to AREN 330 (Mechanical Systems for Buildings) and who can contribute to the continued development of the Building Electrical/Power Systems area within the Architectural Engineering program.

Applicants must have experience in two or more of the following areas:

  • Building mechanical systems (HVAC)
  • Building electrical and power systems
  • Lighting systems and illumination engineering
  • Building automation and controls
  • Energy systems and energy efficiency
  • Integrated building design
  • Building commissioning and performance analysis


Preference will be given to candidates with professional licensure, industry experience, prior teaching experience, experience working with multidisciplinary design teams, and familiarity with applicable building codes and standards.

Candidates with degrees in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Engineering, or closely related disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply.

For appointments at (Visiting) Lecturer, (Visiting) Senior Lecturer, (Visiting) Instructional Assistant Professor, (Visiting) Instructional Associate Professor, or (Visiting) Instructional Professor level, applicants must have a doctoral degree or master's degree in an appropriate discipline together with significant teaching experience at the college level or an extraordinary record of accomplishment in an applied setting.

For appointments at (Visiting) Associate Professor of the Practice or (Visiting) Professor of the Practice level, applicants must possess, at a minimum, significant professional experience, a master's degree appropriate for the field in which the faculty member will teach and significant teaching experience at the college level or an extraordinary record of accomplishment in an applied setting.
