Effective September 1, 2026, the ABET-accredited Architectural Engineering (AREN) program will become the third academic program within the Zachry Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University.

The Zachry Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering invites applications for a full-time Academic Professional Track (Non-Tenure) position with a 9-month appointment beginning August 24, 2026, or January 1, 2027, at the Instructional Assistant Professor or Instructional Associate Professor level with teaching expertise in architectural engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering mechanics, or closely related disciplines.

The successful applicant will teach primarily at the undergraduate level in support of the Architectural Engineering program; advise and mentor undergraduate students; participate in departmental activities; and serve the profession. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

The successful applicant will play an important role in supporting the continued growth, development, and long-term success of the Architectural Engineering program. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in the Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering curriculum; supporting program development, assessment, and continuous improvement efforts; engaging with industry partners; collaborating with faculty across the College of Engineering; serving on university committees; advising and mentoring undergraduate students; and supporting student organizations, project teams, and competition teams.

Department Information

The Zachry Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M University is among the leading civil and environmental engineering departments in the nation. The department currently includes 55 tenured and tenure-track faculty members and 22 Academic Professional Track faculty members and serves more than 900 undergraduate and 370 graduate students. For appointments at Instructional Assistant Professor or Instructional Associate Professor level, applicants must have a doctoral degree or a master’s degree in architectural engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering mechanics, or a closely related discipline appropriate for the field in which the faculty member will teach, together with significant teaching experience at the college level in the field or a related field, or an extraordinary record of accomplishment in an applied setting. Additional requirements may apply depending on the specific faculty title.

Applicants must have expertise in teaching fundamental sophomore- and junior-level courses in architectural engineering, particularly in engineering mechanics and thermal-fluid sciences. Preferred areas of expertise include statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer as these apply to buildings. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to effectively teach courses equivalent to AREN 221 (Engineering Mechanics – Statics and Dynamics for Architectural Engineers), AREN 310 (Thermal-Fluid Sciences I for Architectural Engineers), and AREN 311 (Thermal-Fluid Sciences II for Architectural Engineers).

Preference will be given to candidates with academic preparation in architectural engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering mechanics, or closely related disciplines. Preference may also be given to candidates holding a doctoral degree and/or professional licensure.
