Job Description

Purpose:

The Senior Research Engineer I will execute research grants that relate to experimental hypersonic aerodynamics at the Texas A&M NAHL, and future hypersonic experimental facilities being built at RELLIS. This employee will also help write future grants for federal and state proposals, as well as industry proposals.

Responsibilities:

  • Make sense of existing contracts or grants at NAHL and translate the contract or grant statement of work into actionable experiments and computations to be done
  • Lead experimental campaigns in NAHL and summarize the results.
  • Manage the budget given for the tasks being led in coordination with supervisor.
  • Coordinate schedule for the tasks being led in coordination with supervisor.
  • Coordinate any safety, training, and maintenance issues with the safety manager and EHS.
  • Stay current with TAMU and NHAL mandated training.
  • Observe all safety protocols in place and suggest new ones as needed.
  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Prepare briefs for funding agencies. Brief as needed.
  • Train, as needed, students to use the NAHL facilities and be trained in the new hypersonic facilities being built at RELLIS.
  • Take the lead on writing journal papers (CUI or Distro A) as needed.
  • Ideate and generate new proposals for NAHL.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

What is needed:

  • Master’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Six years of related experience.

What is helpful:

  • Ph.D. in Aerospace with research in experimental hypersonic in blow down tunnels.
  • Experience with redesigning blow down hypersonic tunnels.
  • Experience with corner flows in hypersonic flows and regular and Mach reflections
