What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Laboratory Scientist I / II (Founding Team) position at Test Anywhere LLC?
Role Overview & Impact
Terrace Hall Laboratory is a new high-throughput CLIA clinical laboratory in Burlington, MA, going live in December 2026. Every sample we run is part of how healthcare is changing: faster, more accessible testing that helps people take charge of their health.
As a founding MLS, you'll help bring a new lab to life: validating assays on a new Beckman Coulter chemistry and immunoassay platform and setting the quality bar for a lab designed to scale across multiple sites.
Core Responsibilities
Both levels
- Perform high- and moderate-complexity testing in accordance with CLIA/TJC standards.
- Run and evaluate QC before releasing patient results; troubleshoot shifts, trends, and failures, and document corrective action.
- Recognize critical values, delta failures, and specimen-integrity issues; escalate and notify per policy.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analyzers; keep maintenance and temperature records inspection-ready.
- Participate in proficiency testing and corrective action.
- Execute method validation and verification studies for new assays.
- Maintain competency per CLIA (six-element assessment: semiannually in year one, annually thereafter).
Level II adds
- Own an instrument platform or QC program end-to-end, including Levey-Jennings review
- Review SOPs and flag needed updates; support validation studies under the Technical Supervisor/Laboratory Director.
- Train and document competency for new staff; serve as shift lead.
- Partner with R&D and software on LIMS rules, autoverification, and workflow automation.
Qualifications
Must-Haves (CLIA high-complexity testing personnel, 42 CFR §493.1489) — one of:
- Bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or a chemical or biological science from an accredited institution; or
- Equivalent bachelor's-level education (120 semester hours including 24 hours of MLT courses, or 24 science hours with at least 6 chemistry and 6 biology) plus a NAACLS-accredited program or documented lab training in each specialty tested; or
- Associate degree in medical laboratory technology or a laboratory science (or CLIA-equivalent coursework) plus required laboratory training; or
- Completion of a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory course and service as a Medical Laboratory Specialist.
Official transcripts or foreign-degree equivalency evaluation required before testing patient samples.
Level I: meets the above; new graduates welcome.
