What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Supervisor, Founding (CLIA General Supervisor) position at Test Anywhere LLC?
Role Overview & Impact
Terrace Hall Laboratory is a new high-throughput CLIA clinical laboratory in Burlington, MA, opening in November 2026. We need the person who makes it run: day one, every shift, inspection-ready.
You'll be the first lab leader on site, reporting to the Laboratory Medical Director and working directly with our CMO. You'll take a new Beckman Coulter chemistry and immunoassay platform from install to go-live, build the team, and maintain the quality system through TJC accreditation. Then you'll help replicate it at our next site. If you've wanted to be on the ground floor building a lab instead of maintaining someone else's, this is the job.
Core Responsibilities
- Run the lab day to day. Serve as CLIA General Supervisor: on-site oversight of testing, result review, staffing, and turnaround-time targets across a 6-day operation.
- Stand it up. Lead instrument installation, method validation/verification studies, reference interval work, and go-live under the Laboratory Director's sign-off.
- Own quality. QC review before release and monthly QC/Levey-Jennings review, corrective action, occurrence management, and QA indicators.
- Support accreditation. TJC readiness, proficiency testing enrollment and review, document control, and CMS-209 upkeep; participate in inspections.
- Build the team. Hire, train, and manage MLSs and support techs; run the six-element competency program.
- Maintain the system. Maintain SOPs and the procedure manual; actively participate in safety programs (chemical hygiene, bloodborne pathogens).
- Make it scale. Partner with software on LIMS build, autoverification, and interfaces; partner with ops on supply, inventory, and vendor management.
- Escalate well. Critical values, specimen-integrity trends, and anything affecting patient results go to the Laboratory Director promptly and in writing.
- Duties delegated from the Laboratory Director (e.g., technical supervision in a specialty) are documented in writing and match your CLIA qualifications.
QualificationsMust-Haves (CLIA General Supervisor, 42 CFR §493.1461)
- Bachelor's or higher in medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or a chemical or biological science (or CLIA-equivalent coursework).
- 3 years of high-complexity clinical testing (CLIA minimum is 1 year with a bachelor's), including clinical chemistry and/or immunoassay.
- 1 year leading people, a shift, or a lab section.
- Hands-on experience with QC programs, proficiency testing, competency assessment, and a TJC, CAP, COLA, or state inspection.
- ASCP BOC MLS (or AMT MT) certification, current.
- Available for Saturday coverage and an on-call rotation.
Nice-to-Haves
- Qualifies as CLIA Technical Supervisor (§493.1449) in chemistry and/or immunology: bachelor's 4 years high-complexity experience in the specialty, master's 2, or doctorate 1.
- Lab start-up, relocation, or new-instrument go-live experience.
- Beckman Coulter AU/DxC/DxI or middleware experience.
- High-volume reference lab or DTC/consumer testing background.
- Lean/Six Sigma or data skills (SQL, Python, BI dashboards).
Location & Logistics
- On-site at our Burlington, MA lab, off I-95/Route 128 near Route 3. Free parking; reverse commute from Boston/Cambridge.
- Daytime 6-day operation (Mon–Sat); shift options include 8 hours weekday and 4 hours weekend.
- Growth: path to Lab Manager / Director of Lab Operations as we add sites.
- Post-offer health screening required (vaccination/TB per lab policy).
