Technical Program Manager, Drive Inverter

Tesla
Palo Alto, CA Full Time
POSTED ON 8/2/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 9/1/2026
What To Expect
Tesla’s Drive Inverter team is looking for a highly motivated Technical Program Manager to lead new and existing engineering projects for advanced Drive Inverter technologies in our vehicles. This is a cross-functional role that requires coordination between many different groups within and outside of Tesla, with a strong emphasis on electrical system design and program management for complicated electrical and mechanical integrated components.

You will be immersed in the design engineering process and will shepherd projects from concept through prototype validation and production ramp, including aspects of PCBA design and manufacture. You will leverage your engineering background to understand product requirements, technical risks in inverter design, and validation strategies to accelerate development. You will communicate and present project status, highlight schedule risks, and develop recovery plans in the event of slips. On a daily basis, you will interface with cross-functional teams—including design, manufacturing, compliance, system test, reliability, supply chain, and operations—to define and drive development of new Drive Inverter programs, while managing changes in existing ones.

As a Technical Program Manager, you will operate with a high degree of autonomy on your programs while contributing to the development of tools and processes that improve the organization’s productivity. You will be based out of our primary facilities with the expectation of some travel to Gigafactories or vendor sites.

What You'll Do

  • Establish and manage program feature baselines, scheduling, critical paths, and technology risk areas for Drive Inverter execution, focusing on electrical system design and integrated components
  • Cross-functionally communicate key development updates, risks, and timelines on projects, including weekly presentations to Tesla executive teams
  • Identify tactical and creative ways to overcome obstacles—such as issues in PCBA design and manufacture—while meeting deadlines despite setbacks
  • Develop tools to automate various reporting or planning functions for the Technical Program Management team, enhancing efficiency in inverter design programs
  • Conduct planning and execution/support of NPI builds for Drive Inverter, coordinating design changes and their cut-in to production
  • Act as engineering program owner for Drive Inverter launches and improvements, tracking key metrics including schedule, reliability, performance, cost, and mass for electrical and mechanical integrated systems
  • Lead cross-functional teams in fostering open communication to facilitate collaboration, proactively identifying potential issues and mitigation strategies in program management for complicated components

  • What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 2 years of experience in a fast-paced, NPI, cross-functional environment managing complex engineering programs from concept to production and high-volume ramp, with a focus on electrical system design, inverter design, and program management for complicated electrical and mechanical integrated components
  • Demonstrated understanding of new product development cycles and the criticality of time-to-market in high-volume mass production products
  • Expertise in project management tools (e.g., Agile, Scrum) and methodologies, with the ability to grasp complex technical topics, abstract key issues and risks in actionable form
  • Strong technical aptitude in manufacturing processes (e.g., automation, DFMEA), including PCBA design and manufacture
  • Detail-oriented with strong record-keeping, organizational skills, and excellent verbal/written communication abilities; skills with common workplace software (word processors, spreadsheets, presentation tools) to create and maintain metrics
  • First principles thinking, a positive can-do attitude, and the ability to drive improvements across global interdisciplinary teams with high autonomy
