What To Expect
Tesla’s Energy Manufacturing Engineering team is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to build and develop "The machine that builds the machine"– crafting revolutionary tools and processes that unlock sustainable abundance. You'll collaborate with dynamic cross-functional teams (Design, Quality, Production, etc.) across the entire product lifecycle, from bold initial concepts and prototype breakthroughs to seamless full-scale production. Together, we'll develop high-quality, efficient manufacturing equipment and processes to produce advanced battery modules for Tesla's power electronics, supporting advancements that expand access to abundant clean energy, evolve industries, and promote a sustainable future. This role involves domestic and international travel as needed for projects.
What You'll Do
Develop manufacturing equipment and fixtures to support early-stage prototype builds and medium to high-volume production, collaborating with equipment integrators on design and manufacturing Determine and procure necessary equipment for all manufacturing processes, while managing suppliers through specification, design, buyoff, and installation Characterize and validate new equipment and fixtures for introduction to the production floor Develop new manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency and scalability Determine layout of production workstations, optimizing for product flow, ergonomics, and overall efficiency Perform process analysis, including DOE, PFMEA, line balancing, capacity modeling/simulation, and DFM input to the design team for process and yield improvements Create detailed manufacturing instructions to train technicians and line operators on new processes and equipment
What You'll Bring
3 years’ experience developing mechanical and/or electromechanical systems in a high-volume manufacturing environment Hands-on proficiency with 2D CAD tools for conceptual line design (AutoCAD) and 3D modeling for mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling (SolidWorks or CATIA) Familiarity with conveyance systems, transducer-based fastening (Atlas Copco preferred), robotics (Fanuc or Kuka preferred), adhesive dispensing, laser welding, or automated functional testing Demonstrated ability to create technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment Experience in providing Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Automation (DFA) input Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability
