What You'll Do
Serve as the Electrical Department Head and licensed P.E. of record, reviewing and stamping electrical plans for permitting across all project types and scales Lead the development of electrical designs spanning 12V to 35kV systems, including power distribution, grounding, lighting, and controls for manufacturing equipment, building infrastructure, battery/energy storage, EV charging, and R&D test setups Prepare and oversee IFC (Issued for Construction) and IFP (Issued for Permit) drawing packages using Revit, ensuring compliance with NEC, California Building Code (CBC), and Title 24 Perform and direct critical electrical studies including arc flash hazard assessments, fault current analyses, voltage drop calculations, selective coordination, transient analyses, and harmonic studies using ETAP, SKM, or equivalent software Drive innovative, first-principles electrical design solutions that balance technical excellence with constructability, cost-effectiveness, and Tesla's sustainability objectives Establish and track team KPIs, prepare impact reports, and deliver executive-level status updates on electrical progress for critical programs Prioritize and allocate team resources across a high volume of concurrent projects—ranging from rapid-turnaround equipment installs to multi-quarter facility buildouts—ensuring balanced workloads and on-time delivery Partner with stakeholders across all Tesla product verticals to refine project scopes, validate feasibility, and optimize designs for sustainability, efficiency, and cost Interface with external EPC firms, vendors, and contractors during bidding, procurement, and construction phases to enforce compliance and mitigate risks Present design concepts, progress updates, and risk assessments during project milestone reviews to multi-discipline teams and leadership
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience. Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of California (different state PE with ability to obtain CA PE via reciprocity within 60 days will be considered) 10 years of hands-on experience designing electrical systems for heavy commercial, industrial, manufacturing, or R&D environments Demonstrated experience across a broad voltage range (12V to 35kV), including low, medium, and high voltage power distribution systems Expert proficiency in Revit MEP, including advanced modeling, BIM coordination, panel scheduling, and circuiting Proficiency in electrical analysis software (ETAP, SKM, or equivalent) for fault current, arc flash, transient, harmonic, and coordination studies In-depth knowledge of NEC, California Building Code (CBC), California Energy Code (Title 24), and NFPA standards Proven experience leading and mentoring engineering teams, with a track record of developing talent and driving team performance Strong ability to manage multiple concurrent projects across varying scales and timelines in a high-velocity environment Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with cross-functional teams, executives, and external partners
