Job Summary
The Tool Management Specialist is responsible for maintaining, issuing, and tracking all tools and equipment stored in the tool crib. This role ensures that production and maintenance teams have the necessary tools available when needed, while maintaining accurate inventory records and supporting timely replenishment through purchase order placement. The Tool Management Specialist plays a critical role in minimizing downtime and supporting overall operational efficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate inventory of tools, supplies, and consumables within the tool crib.
- Issue and track tools checked in/out by employees, ensuring accountability and proper usage.
- Inspect tools for wear, damage, or calibration needs before reissuing.
- Place purchase requests and orders for new tools, replacements, and consumables as required.
- Monitor stock levels to ensure critical tools and supplies are readily available.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure tool crib environment.
- Support vendor relationships by coordinating orders, deliveries, and returns as necessary.
- Provide basic user guidance and information about tool usage, handling, and storage.
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to tool crib operations, inventory levels, and purchasing.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives for inventory control and tool management systems.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and manufacturing/maintenance equipment.
- Ability to use computer systems for inventory tracking and purchasing (ERP or similar software experience preferred).
- Strong communication and customer service skills to support production teams.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in a manufacturing environment.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or vocational training preferred.
- Previous experience in tool crib, warehouse, inventory control, or similar environment.
Working conditions
- Working conditions may include working outside of a climate-controlled environment for long periods of time.
- PPE is required while on production floors.
Physical requirements
Walking, sitting, standing, crouching, and lifting up to 50lbs.
