POSITION PURPOSE:
The position of Specialist Natural Gas Scheduler II is responsible for transporting natural gas that is purchased, sold, stored or withdrawn from storage, parked or loaned, monitoring storage inventories, and tracking imbalances on various points of the pipeline system. This position is responsible for assessing the most cost effective means of transporting natural gas from multiple sources to multiple destinations in order to meet plant generation requirements and contract balancing requirements. This position is required to provide accurate and precise documentation of all relevant data and transactions into the gas management system to ensure timely natural gas availability and prevent costly natural gas surpluses or deficits. This position also provides guidance and support to Level- I Schedulers on all the activities mentioned above as required on the pipelines they have experience on.
JOB DIMENSIONS:
Budget Responsibility — Ensures utilization of all contract /tariff provisions to minimize natural gas transportation costs. Annual expenditures vary depending on natural gas requirements at the plants ~$50 to $100 million per year for the scheduling group.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Maintains an awareness of interstate pipeline networks, coordinates with pipeline volume analysts to ensure that natural gas transportation is managed according to contract alternatives and real-time availability.
- Responsible for ensuring that natural gas purchases are cost effective and timely transported to the appropriate plant in conjunction with the plant’s natural gas requirements.
- Scheduling and transporting natural gas flows requires coordinating with the pipeline gas controllers to ensure that adequate systems are available and online to receive natural gas purchases.
- Responsible for transporting natural gas to TVA’s fuel management customers, e.g., local distribution companies. This involves moving natural gas across pipelines, interconnecting pipeline sources, and serving as their agent to execute transportation transactions in the most timely and cost effective manner.
- Accurate and cost-effective fuel transportation and scheduling is a critical component in ensuring that TVA’s generation needs and customer demands are met.
- Provides guidance and direction to Level -I Spec. Natural Gas Schedulers on all aspects of transporting natural gas on the pipelines they are experienced on.
- Prepare themselves to become subject matter experts on all transporting pipelines which TVA utilizes for gas fired generation in order to progress to level III.
- Must be willing to work unusual/extended hours as necessary during seasonal peaks which may include weekend coverage.
- Individual must have the ability to handle heavy workloads in a potentially stressful environment with multiple deadlines.
- On-call rotation including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Provide back-up coverage during periods of leave for the Manager of Natural Gas Scheduling
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education – Bachelors degree in business, engineering, logistics or a related field. Equivalent education, training and experience are acceptable.
Experience – Prefer 3 or more years experience scheduling natural gas on interstate natural gas pipelines for the delivery to natural gas fired electric generating units or equivalent training from similar energy commodities experience.
Certification/License, etc — Completion of CC/CT Training
Knowledge/Skills/Values — Knowledge of various pipeline electronic bulletin board systems and fuel management computer software systems desired. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Must have ability to quickly establish and maintain effective working relationships with other schedulers, pipeline gas control/analysts, and traders including internal TVA customers and team members within CGS and consistently be vigilant in upholding TVA’s Values. Candidate may be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position / access requirements and essential job functions.
