Job Description
Tennessee State University Department of Parking Services invites applications for the position of Parking & Traffic Enforcement Officer.
This role writes and issues citations or warnings to owners or drivers of vehicles that are in violation of university parking traffic regulations. Issue visitor parking permits, check visitors permits to determine access to the campus. Direct visitors/motorists to appropriate parking lots or spaces. Uses a handheld citation writer or other authorized equipment to complete enforcement related duties. Patrols parking zones either on foot or in vehicle; observes vehicles and determines conformity with parking regulations. Investigates vehicles with multiple unpaid citations to determine responsible customer using computer parking software program. Locates abandoned vehicles by reviewing reports, complaints and through patrol activities; establishes through inspection and inquiry that vehicles are indeed abandoned; arranges for vehicle to be towed as necessary. Checks assigned areas for adequate signage, damaged or missing property, malfunctioning equipment or safety hazards and reports any problems to parking services office via two-way radio. Provides traffic enforcement and control, reserving parking lots and managing traffic flow during special events. Directs drivers of vehicles to proper parking areas and enforces special parking restrictions. Actively patrols parking lots on campus to provide a visible safety presence. Observes and report activities of a questionable/suspicious nature or unusual activity including traffic, parking conditions and incidents to the office. Works flexible hours and days for special events and official university events/services as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent. Must be at least 18 years of age. Experience in security work. Possession of a valid Tennessee operator license as issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety. Applicant must not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge or to any violation of any federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances and not have been released or discharged under any other than honorable discharge from any of the armed forces of the United States. Be of good moral character as determined by a thorough investigation conducted by the employing agency.
