Job Summary

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville is accepting applications for the full-time Welding Technology Associate Instructor position. This role will primarily teach welding to adult students, with additional support as assigned for high school dual enrollment locations and instructional needs.

In addition, the instructor will travel between TCAT Knoxville campuses to provide instruction. The position is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, supporting student success, and maintaining a positive learning environment in the classroom and laboratories.

The work schedule will be 7.5 hours per day and 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute lunch break.

Job Duties

  • Instruction: This position will play a crucial role in enhancing student understanding and engagement within the program. This position requires the ability to effectively implement a multi-method teaching approach, utilizing demonstrations, lectures, hands-on activities, and real-world job site experiences to equip students with the knowledge necessary for employment in the industry. The instructor will assess and adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs, interests, and learning abilities of students, developing accurate and objective standards to measure learning outcomes. Responsibilities include teaching all phases of the program, including areas related to certification, while monitoring, grading, and evaluating individual student progress. - (Essential)
  • Record Keeping, Reporting, and Graduate Tracking: Maintaining student records in the college’s Banner student records management software and submitting timely reports are essential duties. The instructor will assist in recruiting new students and supporting graduate placement, fostering strong public relations with local businesses and industries. Building and maintaining relationships with area employers is vital for facilitating referrals and employment opportunities for career and technical students. Additionally, the Associate Instructor will be responsible for maintaining and updating the program's graduate placement information. Effective communication in a professional, tactful, and courteous manner with students, faculty, and the general public is essential. The instructor will perform assigned duties following safety procedures and rules, adhering to established practices, curriculum, and standards. - (Essential)
  • Professional Development: Remain current within the instructional field and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college and division professional development and in-service activities; support related professional organizations; participate in the annual faculty evaluation process. - (Essential)
  • Service to Students: Comply with FERPA laws; participate in advising, recruitment, admissions, and orientation of potential students; assist students with job placement; support student activities, including SkillsUSA, NTHS, graduation, and other events. - (Essential)
  • Service to the College and Community: Assist in the recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned; participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes; support and participate in the College’s decision-making processes; provide input and assistance with budgets; attend convocation and commencement exercises and participate in mandatory college programs; develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with colleagues; maintain an active program advisory committee; work to meet and exceed COE benchmarks for student completion and placement as well as accreditation standards. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency
  • Post-secondary diploma or A.A.S. in Welding Technology or related field
  • Three (3) years of employment experience in the occupation
  • Must be able to provide both theory and practical instruction

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, we would highly value candidates with AWS, CWE, CWI, and NCCER certifications. Additionally, teaching experience will be considered a strong asset.

  • Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office and other common software programs
  • Strong abilities in multi-tasking, customer service, interpersonal skills, and organization
  • Must possess communication skills necessary to effectively interact with students, public and employees at all levels both written and verbally
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to meet deadlines

Physical Demands / Working Conditions

The conditions herein represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.

  • Environment: Work is performed in a classroom and shop setting with frequent interruptions and distractions. The majority of work (30 hours per week) will be instructing and training students, with the remaining 7.5 hours utilized for grading, recording attendance, and individual student meetings.
  • Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a classroom and shop setting, lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 30 lbs., operate standard equipment and tools, stand and climb ladders, and effectively communicate to exchange information.

SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience according to Tennessee Board of Regents guidelines within the range of $50,894 - $61,074.
