Duties
- Safely operate a child-friendly van or bus during split shifts, adhering to all traffic laws and safety protocols
- Transport children to and from the childcare center, school, or designated activities with punctuality and care
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure mechanical safety and cleanliness before each shift
- Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and children, demonstrating excellent communication skills in English and other languages as needed
- Manage behavior on the vehicle through positive behavior management techniques to ensure a calm and safe environment
- Maintain accurate records of routes, pick-up/drop-off times, and vehicle maintenance logs
- Assist with loading and unloading children, ensuring proper child safety seats and seat belts are used at all times
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; experience in bus driving, commercial driving, or school bus driving preferred
- Proven experience in bus driving or paratransit services; familiarity with
driver standards is advantageous - Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for engaging diverse communities
- Mechanical knowledge to perform basic vehicle inspections and troubleshoot minor issues
- Experience working with children or in childcare settings; understanding of behavior management techniques is beneficial
- Excellent customer service skills to interact positively with families and staff
- Ability to work flexible hours across split shifts while maintaining high safety standards
- Knowledge of local traffic laws and safety regulations related to school or childcare transportation
