Position Overview

We are seeking a Junior/Mid AWS Database Architect / Database Engineer to support database operations, modernization, migration, and cloud support activities in a secure federal environment.

This role is intended for a junior to mid-level database professional with hands-on database administration, database engineering, or cloud-hosted database experience. The selected candidate should be able to support database implementation, troubleshooting, documentation, migration support, and secure operations, while growing into broader AWS database architecture responsibilities.

This is a good opportunity for a cleared database professional who has a solid technical foundation and wants to continue developing within AWS cloud database environments supporting mission-critical federal systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Support database administration, engineering, and operational tasks in AWS or hybrid cloud environments.
• Assist with implementation and maintenance of AWS database services such as RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, and AWS Database Migration Service.
• Support database migration activities from on-premises systems to AWS or other cloud environments.
• Assist with schema review, data modeling, indexing, query tuning, and database performance troubleshooting.
• Support backup, recovery, replication, availability, and disaster recovery activities.
• Help maintain database documentation, diagrams, SOPs, migration notes, and technical procedures.
• Work with cloud engineers, application teams, security personnel, and government stakeholders.
• Support database security activities such as access control, encryption, auditing, and least-privilege permissions.
• Assist with compliance-related activities aligned to federal security standards.
• Troubleshoot database connectivity, storage, performance, access, and availability issues.

Required Qualifications

• Active Top Secret / SCI clearance.
• Ability to work 100% onsite in Washington, DC.
• 2 years of database administration, database engineering, data engineering, or related technical experience.
• Experience with at least one relational database platform, such as:
• • SQL Server
  • PostgreSQL
  • MySQL
  • Oracle
• Familiarity with AWS or cloud-hosted database environments.
• Basic understanding of database backup, recovery, performance tuning, indexing, and access controls.
• Ability to write, troubleshoot, or interpret SQL queries.
• Ability to document technical processes and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience working in a secure, federal, DoD, Intelligence Community, or similarly regulated environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with AWS database services such as:
• • Amazon RDS
  • Aurora
  • DynamoDB
  • Redshift
  • AWS Database Migration Service
• Experience supporting on-premises to cloud database migration efforts.
• Experience with scripting or automation using SQL, Python, PowerShell, Bash, or Terraform.
• Exposure to high availability, replication, disaster recovery, or backup/recovery planning.
• Familiarity with database security, encryption, IAM, KMS, auditing, or least-privilege access.
• Exposure to RMF, NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, DISA STIGs, ATO support, or similar federal compliance requirements.
• AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Solutions Architect Associate, AWS Database Specialty, Security , or related certification.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a cleared junior-to-mid database professional who has practical database experience, some exposure to AWS or cloud-hosted databases, and the ability to support day-to-day database operations, migration tasks, troubleshooting, documentation, and secure cloud database activities.

This role does not require a senior enterprise architect, but the candidate should be comfortable working in a technical environment and growing into broader cloud database responsibilities.
