What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Veterinarian position at Tempus Recruitment?
Our client is a privately owned hospital seeking an Associate Veterinarian to join their team on either a full-time or part-time basis. The clinic currently sees cats and dogs, although they are open to seeing additional species should a veterinarian have an interest in expanding services in that area. Owned by a husband and wife team since 2018, the hospital has a busy caseload while maintaining a small family feel. The team places a strong emphasis on personality and culture fit, believing that clinical skills can be taught while maintaining a positive and supportive environment is equally important. They are committed to practicing a very high standard of medicine and fostering a collaborative atmosphere throughout the hospital.
The Associate Veterinarian will be responsible for providing high-quality medical, surgical, and preventative care to small animal patients. Duties include performing routine examinations, diagnosing and treating illnesses and injuries, developing treatment plans, carrying out surgical and dental procedures, interpreting diagnostic tests, and prescribing medications. The role also involves educating clients on preventative healthcare, nutrition, and treatment options, maintaining accurate medical records, monitoring hospitalized patients, and working collaboratively with veterinary nurses and support staff to ensure exceptional patient care and client service.
The schedule is flexible, with the hospital open to either four 10-hour shifts or five 8-hour shifts Monday through Friday. There are no weekends or on-call responsibilities. The opportunity is open to both new graduates and experienced veterinarians, with the team very happy to provide mentoring and support.
The hospital is a bright, modern, and well-equipped clinic with a full surgical suite. Equipment includes ultrasound, full in-house laboratories, digital dental radiography, paperless systems, AI scribe technology if desired, and access to the latest equipment. The clinic is also home to a hospital pigeon that made the practice its permanent home and has become a well-loved part of the team among both staff and clients.
Services offered include wellness care, dermatology, internal medicine, digital radiology, ultrasound, and surgery, including orthopedics performed by the owner. The owner is willing to mentor veterinarians interested in learning orthopedics or more advanced surgery and dentistry. The clinic is also open to adding any additional services a veterinarian would like to bring into the practice.
Appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes, with urgent care cases occasionally worked into the schedule when needed. Veterinarians currently have one full procedure day alongside three days of appointments, although the hospital is very flexible and willing to adjust this structure depending on the veterinarian’s preferences.
The hospital currently has two DVMs supported by a team of 10 support staff. Veterinarians are supported by one nurse during every appointment, along with a floating nurse available to assist when needed. The environment is collaborative, supportive, and mentoring-focused, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and maintaining a positive culture throughout the hospital.
