The Accounting Bookkeeper is responsible for managing office accounting functions including rent collections, accounts payable processing, tenant billing, and maintaining key financial records. The role demands strong organizational skills, proficiency with computerized accounting systems, and the ability to communicate effectively with staff, tenants, and external contacts. Additional duties include clerical support such as typing, filing, and project work.
Responsibilities
- Maintain Tenants’ Accounts Receivable records and security deposit logs
- Invoice residents for various charges excluding monthly rent and occupancy fees
- Process security deposit reimbursements and reconcile tenant accounts
- Monitor and maintain Section 8 program records
- Assist with tenant issue resolution and rent collection
- Order and manage office supplies
- Perform general clerical tasks including typing, filing, and data entry
- Answer phones and assist the public as required
- Prepare clear, concise reports and correspondence
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum two years of progressively responsible accounting or bookkeeping experience
- Proficiency with computerized accounting systems and MS Office, especially Excel and Accounts Receivable software
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Valid Connecticut Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of bookkeeping experience
- Bilingual skills, particularly Spanish, are an asset
