Primary Purpose:
To ensure the smooth and efficient flow of communication throughout the school district and to meet district printing requirements.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- College degree or 5 years experience in school communications
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of communication systems and equipment
- Ability to conduct in-services for district personnel in all areas of communication services
- Ability to manage appraise and organize personnel
- Ability to analyze and resolve communications problems
- Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
- Five (5) years experience in school communications preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Mailroom
- Staff and supervise the mailroom clerical staff to ensure efficient flow of deistrict mail.
- Keep abreast of USPS policies and procedures as it pertains to the district.
- Ensure that equipment used in the mailroom is kept in good working condition.
- Ensure that the reproduction needs of the administration building are met in an efficient and timely manner.
- Provide training to Mailroom staff to ensure annual professional development relevant to department goals.
Printing Services
- Assume overall supervision of the Printing Services Department.
- Provide training to Printing Services staff to ensure annual professional development relevant to department goals.
Communications
- Negotiate and evaluate contracts for Communications Services.
- Prepare and disseminate manuals to assist district users of all department procedures.
- Supervise the operation of the district telephone system—including installations, moves, and changes, cabling, and long distance service.
- Staff, train, and supervise the PBX operator(s).
- Manage “on hold” messages to public and lobby presence/greeting including raptor system.
- Assist departments with phone menus and etiquette.
- Staff and supervise telecommunication technician and telephone switch technician.
- Assist Telephone Technician with updates to voicemail system.
- Manage the district’s database for the Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone system.
- Ensure that the 911 database is accurate and up to date at all times.
- Manage the mass calling (one-way and two-way) platform(s) and train users.
- Provide training to Communications Services staff to ensure annual professional development relevant to department goals.
Policy, Reports, and Law
- Generate and evaluate, periodically, telephone traffic and utilization report information.
- Negotiate cellular contract, manage and supports service, monitors usage, maintains cellular databases, and trains district cellular users.
- File all E-RATE forms, meets with service providers, ensures E-RATE guidelines are followed, and maintains E-RATE documentation.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
Other
- Provide consultant services to district personnel regarding the telephone system, mail service, printing service, cellular service, paging device, and school-to-home communication system.
- Manage and ensure the timely flow of all department projects and keeps regular contact with vendors regarding status of jobs.
- Update the department Web site.
- Evaluate all Communication Services staff.
- Prepare and manage budget for the Communication Services Department.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Manage and train district personnel regarding web and video conferencing and video distribution platform.
- Provide live stream of Alief ISD School Board meetings.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and firing of the Communications Department personnel.
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Professional Supervisor Personnel.

2025-2026 Salary Range Min. $84,560 Mid. $99,433 Max. $114,303 (Based on previous experience)
Salaries are determined by the number of completed and eligible years of service at an accredited school.
Salary is based on 235 days. If working less than 235 days, the salary will be less.
