About The Opportunity
TEKsystems is seeking a Surgical Coordinator to support physicians by coordinating and managing all aspects of surgical scheduling and patient preparation. This role is ideal for someone with experience in a surgical or medical office who enjoys patient interaction, coordination, and working in a fast‑paced healthcare environment. You will work closely with physicians, patients, surgical facilities, and insurance companies to ensure surgeries are scheduled accurately, authorizations are obtained, and patients are fully prepared for their procedures.

About The Opportunity
TEKsystems is seeking a Surgical Coordinator to support physicians by coordinating and managing all aspects of surgical scheduling and patient preparation. This role is ideal for someone with experience in a surgical or medical office who enjoys patient interaction, coordination, and working in a fast‑paced healthcare environment. You will work closely with physicians, patients, surgical facilities, and insurance companies to ensure surgeries are scheduled accurately, authorizations are obtained, and patients are fully prepared for their procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate internal surgery scheduling based on physician orders
- Reserve operating room dates and times with surgical facilities
- Schedule anesthesia, surgical assistants, vendors, and any required equipment
- Communicate surgery details to patients, including preparation, appointment time, and location
- Review patient medication lists and medical history that may impact surgical clearance
- Coordinate and schedule pre‑operative appointments, testing, imaging, and clearances
- CT, MRI, Ultrasound, X‑Ray, labs, etc.
- Obtain insurance authorizations and pre‑certifications using CPT and ICD‑10 codes
- Prepare, send, and track required surgical documentation (orders, consents, H&P, pathology)
- Ensure all documentation is scanned and maintained in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Confirm surgery dates with patients, facilities, and anesthesia providers
- Act as a liaison and patient advocate between patients, physicians, facilities, and payors
- Track global surgical periods and ensure appropriate post‑procedure follow‑ups
- Release unused OR blocks per facility policy to avoid utilization penalties
- Support compliance with US Oncology policies, Code of Ethics, and business standards
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- At least 1 year of experience in a surgical or medical office setting (preferred)
- Experience with scheduling, insurance verification, and/or prior authorizations
- Knowledge of medical and surgical terminology
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Ability to explain patient financial responsibility based on insurance benefits
- Must pass background check and drug screening
- Temp‑to‑perm opportunity with a well‑established healthcare organization
