Fiber Technician – Job Description
Fiber Installation & Termination
- Install and terminate fiber optic cables for single‑mode applications
- Install LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, and MPO/MTP connectors
- Terminate simplex and duplex fiber jumper cables
- Terminate and breakout outside plant (OSP) single‑mode fiber (e.g., Corning, CommScope)
- Terminate outdoor single‑mode fiber
- Understand and work with splice matrices
- Test fiber using Fluke test equipment (including DTX‑1800)
- Perform OTDR testing to verify fiber integrity
- Troubleshoot fiber issues end‑to‑end and across the network using OTDR analysis
- Perform mechanical splicing on all fiber types
- Perform fusion splicing on all fiber types
- Complete building entrance splices, maintenance space splices, and direct‑buried splices
- Perform basic copper termination as required
- Label all installations in accordance with company (IES) standards
- Provide all required testing results and documentation
- Strong experience with single‑mode fiber installation and termination
- Proficiency with fiber testing tools (Fluke, OTDR)
- Experience with mechanical and fusion splicing
- Working knowledge of OSP fiber environments
- Ability to read and follow fiber design documentation and standards
