Commissioning Automation Technician

We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Automation Technician to join a growing team specializing in marine HVAC and refrigeration systems. This role is ideal for a hands-on automation and controls professional with experience in PLC-based control systems, HMIs, electrical systems, and HVAC equipment.

Reporting to the General Manager and working closely with Project Managers and technical teams, the Commissioning Automation Technician will be responsible for commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, and programming control systems for HVAC-R systems installed on large marine vessels.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform end-to-end testing, download programming, start up, commission, and service assigned projects.
• Commission and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems and HMI interfaces.
• Perform quality checks on control panel assemblies, including point-to-point testing, torque checks, and cable size validation.
• Troubleshoot PLC programming to ensure compliance with approved control philosophies and sequences of operation.
• Troubleshoot and modify HMI pages during system start-up.
• Check and verify the calibration of system sensors and transmitters.
• Prepare and complete commissioning documentation.
• Redline electrical and control drawings and submit updates to the appropriate management team.
• Provide project schedule and commissioning progress updates.
• Work closely with refrigeration and HVAC teams to start up and commission HVAC-R systems.
• Support troubleshooting, repair, and programming of electrical and control systems.
• Maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety and company security standards.
• Ensure proper accountability and maintenance of company-issued tools and equipment.

Qualifications

• 5 years of experience in HVAC controls, automation, electrical systems, or a related field.
• Technical school education or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience.
• Experience as an Industrial Electrician or in a comparable electrical trade is preferred.
• Strong experience with PLCs, industrial control systems, and HMIs.
• Familiarity with or a strong interest in HVAC systems, including:
• • Fans
  • Pumps
  • Air Handling Units (AHUs)
  • Chillers
  • Refrigeration systems
• Experience creating control panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical or similar software is a plus.
• Licensed Electrician in the United States is preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 60% to worksites throughout the United States.
