The Sr. Cost Accountant position is responsible for providing insight into manufacturing variances, overhead expenses, and inventory. The Sr. Cost Accountant identifies process improvements, cost-saving opportunities, and growth projections. They work closely with engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing personnel to resolve variances and inefficiencies.
Principle Responsibilities
- Review and analyze standard and actual costs for manufacturing variances and prepare reports
- Liaise with the production teams on a regular basis, reviewing significant job cost variances for root cause identification, and ultimately counter measure actions
- Providing financial support for cost improvement projects, tracking and reporting
- Analyze purchase price variance, preparing reports for Supply Chain with improvement opportunity recommendation
- Partner with the quoting team, participating in special projects, product cost and profitability analysis, and in the preparation of quote packages as necessary
- Provide margin analysis reviews on newly introduced products, highlighting actual vs. quoted margin gaps
- Prepare reports comparing actual vs budgeted operational costs and track any reduction actions
- Analyze inventory trends and future projections to assist in reducing balance sheet risk
- Maintain productivity reporting and collaborate with Operations on errors and inefficiencies
- Work on special projects as required
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or similar and three (3) to five (5) years in manufacturing cost accounting experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in Excel, experience in manipulating large databases a plus
- Significant hands-on experience using an integrated ERP system
- Solid understanding of manufacturing operations, inventory and cost accounting
- Understanding of U.S. GAAP as it applies to a manufacturing environment is required
- Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Extraordinary interpersonal skills to work in conjunction with other departments.
- Must be a team player who also works well independently.
- Must be able to analyze data, draw conclusions, interpret results, and make recommendations.
