Financial Reporting Manager I

Position Summary

The Financial Reporting Manager I is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of financial information for both company management and external users, and plays a key role in the general accounting, technical accounting, and financial reporting functions supporting Tecomet's US operating sites and corporate entities. This position leads and manages a team of accounting professionals, and actively participates in the accounting cycle to ensure that accounting processes are timely, accurate, efficient, and consistent, while also leading technical accounting research and audit compliance across US operations.

The Accounting Manager should have strong general and technical accounting skills, sound analytical judgment, and the ability to multi-task and perform the job function under minimal supervision, along with excellent communication and people-leadership skills. The role requires a high level of attention to detail with a focus on accuracy, balanced with the ability to step back and perform analytical review to identify errors, omissions, and unusual activity. This position is also responsible for leading, coaching, and developing a team of accounting professionals to build a high-performing, collaborative function.

This position reports to the Director, Financial Reporting and is part of the Global Finance team at Tecomet. We are looking for a proactive professional who will ask questions, research unusual activity independently as appropriate, and communicate effectively with Finance leadership. The role requires the above to be accomplished within Tecomet's principles of continuous improvement, customer-driven innovation, and a win-first culture, while meeting Company financial and other performance metrics.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Manage the monthly and year-end financial close processes, ensuring completeness and accuracy of the financial statements, including the preparation, analysis, and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and accounting estimates (including recording journal entries)
  • Maintain various schedules such as capital projects, inventory, prepaid expenses, and accruals, reconciling each to the general ledger for US sites and the corporate entities
  • Calculate inventory cycle count variances and maintain the related variance schedule; test cycle counts for accuracy, including oversight of year-end inventory counts
  • Record intercompany transactions and perform reconciliations, including oversight of Tecomet's global intercompany activity
  • Generate periodic financial statements in compliance with US GAAP
  • Lead technical accounting research and prepare whitepapers on complex accounting issues such as revenue recognition, leases, business combinations, and debt arrangements
  • Monitor, interpret, and implement new accounting standards and updates from relevant regulatory bodies (e.g., FASB, PCC)
  • Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors
  • Assist in the implementation of consolidated accounting policies and procedures
  • Ensure the accuracy, quality, and integrity of the Company's accounting system, and support the integrity of the Company's internal control environment
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., FP&A, Tax) to provide technical accounting guidance and ensure consistent application of accounting principles
  • Drive process improvement in the monthly close process and identify opportunities for automation within financial reporting process
  • Manage and complete specialized accounting projects independently or as part of a team
  • Recruit, hire, and onboard accounting staff, and build and maintain a high-performing team
  • Assign, prioritize, and review the work of team members, providing regular coaching and constructive feedback
  • Conduct performance evaluations, set goals, and support the professional development and training needs of direct reports
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Additional duties and ad hoc projects as requested by supervisor

Required

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5 years of progressive experience in accounting

Preferred

  • Active CPA or successful completion of the CPA exams
  • Public accounting experience, ideally with a Big 4 or other large national accounting firm
  • Experience with ERP software (M2M, Epicor and Syteline a plus)
  • Manufacturing accounting background

Credentials/Experience

  • Comprehensive knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls
  • Experience researching technical accounting issues and drafting internal accounting positions on such matters
  • Strong comprehension of general ledger accounting and account reconciliations
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and in data analysis tools
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong business acumen and problem-solving skills
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, including experience hiring, supervising, and developing accounting staff
  • Ability to delegate effectively, set clear expectations, and provide constructive feedback to support team growth
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic, changing company environment and remain flexible to changing demands

Travel Requirements: 15%

Work Arrangement

This is a hybrid role. The candidate must be able to commute to Tecomet's Mason, MI office on a weekly basis.
