Engineering Director Web Platform (Enterprise Scale)
Location: Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid) Full-Time
Overview
We are hiring an Engineering Director to lead large-scale web platform engineering across multiple teams and geographies. This role is responsible for strategic direction, architecture alignment, and execution of enterprise-grade web systems serving tens of millions of users.
You will act as a senior technology leader, driving innovation, scalability, and organizational excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and scale multiple engineering teams (20 50 engineers) across regions
- Define and execute long-term web platform strategy and architecture
- Drive delivery of enterprise-scale, high-availability web applications
- Partner with executive stakeholders across Product, Business, and Technology
- Establish best practices for architecture, scalability, and system design
- Own engineering excellence, delivery predictability, and operational metrics
- Guide teams on microservices, API design, and cloud-native architectures
- Lead hiring strategy, succession planning, and leadership development
- Act as a change agent, driving innovation and continuous improvement
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
- 12 years of software engineering experience
- 7 years of leadership experience managing multiple teams
- Proven experience leading large-scale enterprise web platforms
- Strong technical expertise in:
- JavaScript, ReactJS, modern frontend frameworks
- Node.js, Java, REST APIs, GraphQL
- Microservices and distributed systems
- Deep experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure)
- Web architecture & large-scale system design
- API gateway patterns and microservices architecture
- Observability, performance tuning, and reliability engineering
- CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, CircleCI)
- Kubernetes and container orchestration
- Strong executive presence and communication skills
- Ability to influence across large organizations
- Proven track record of building and scaling engineering organizations
- Experience driving cross-functional alignment and strategic initiatives
- Ability to mentor senior leaders and engineering managers
- Experience with global teams and enterprise platforms
- Strong architectural decision-making at scale
- Ability to balance technical depth with strategic leadership
