Classified Salary Schedule: PRI 18, $30.57 -$37.09 hourly

JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of the assigned supervisor, the Student Information Systems Specialist plans, coordinates and performs activities related to the support and operation of the District’s Student Information System (SIS) and the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS). Confers with administrators and staff to provide support, documentation, training, data extraction/reporting to district staff and governmental agencies, and performs related work as assigned. The position requires technical skill in addition to the ability to interpret and explain technical concepts to non-technical users. The Specialist is responsible for the maintenance and security of the software applications and the data throughout the district. Ability to work both as part of a team and individually is essential.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides in-depth knowledge and expertise in all aspects of the District’s Student Information System (SIS) application and database.
- Manages and supports the day-to-day operation of the District Student Information System (SIS) application and database. Including user-support, troubleshooting and problem-solving.
- Identifies, analyzes and resolves problems related to the district Student Information System, interacts effectively with users to solve problems and advises on best practices for using the software system.
- Creates and disseminates the annual SIS calendar to site users for the purpose of successful student scheduling, grade reporting, and student enrollment.
- Establishment, enforcement and maintenance of data entry standards. Monitors database for accuracy and data integrity. Ensures staff access to the SIS is aligned to their role in the organization.
- Interprets, implements and monitors state and federal mandates regarding data.
- Manages the student data collection and submission specifically required for CALPADS, School Accountability Report Card, and U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights required reporting.
- Provides required information extracts to governmental and other outside agencies including periodic attendance data and demographics extracts.
- Communicates district, state, and federal agency mandates to appropriate department personnel.
- Data transformation and bulk import/export between SIS and secondary data systems via API connector, SFTP, or other secured communication protocol.
- Participates in district mandated training and retraining programs.
- Designs the layout of reports to meet the needs of district users and governmental agencies including progress reports, report cards, and other reporting data.
- Monitors database for accuracy and data integrity with periodic report audits.
- Provides advice and guidance to other district technology support personnel and users.
- Maintains knowledge and alignment of all student data with current district, state and governmental agencies reporting requirements. Ensures the district maximizes the use of the district SIS, including leading the implementation of new SIS features and modules.
- Utilize district ticketing/work order system to receive user requests for help. Achieve appropriate and established service response times for support tickets.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive employee and student information.
- Facilitates the configuration and maintains accuracy of student enrollment between the SIS and secondary learning portals, educational tools, and testing / assessment platforms.
- Assists other departments in coordination of testing and assessments.
- Develops user guides, job aids, and supporting documentation for end-users. Provides remote and in-person user training and may travel to school sites in support of related duties.
- Provides training and information to office staff on the policies related enrollment, attendance, scheduling and ensures the system is compliant with district, state and federal reporting.
- Responsible for finding and correcting data anomalies within the SIS and certifying enrollment totals to be reported to state and other federal agencies.
- May represent the District to state and local governmental agencies relative to CALPADS and best practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- District post-offer physical examination and drug screening.
- Tuberculin skin test before employment and every four years thereafter, or chest x-ray.
- Valid California Class C driver’s license and evidence of eligibility for insurance.
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate may be required.
