Arizona State University seeks a strategic leader to advance institutional digital accessibility. The Digital Accessibility Lead will serve as ASU’s central authority for digital accessibility governance, compliance, and support across academic, administrative, and enterprise systems, while leveraging emerging technologies—including AI-driven accessibility tools—to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
This position coordinates ASU’s accessibility framework, oversees training and consulting programs, reviews technology procurements, and partners with university stakeholders to ensure ASU’s digital ecosystem supports an inclusive experience for all. This includes instructional content, websites, mobile apps, and enterprise platforms.
The Digital Accessibility Lead role is a part of the Operational Design & Web Experience within Enterprise Technology, the university's central technology organization. This role carries core responsibilities, including fostering a sense of belonging and cultivating a culture that is relational, visionary, and empowering. Salary Range: $66,200.00-$99,400.00 per year; DOE.
Essential Duties:
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead ASU’s Digital Accessibility Initiative to achieve institutional and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and implement accessibility policies, standards, and governance frameworks.
- Establish and chair accessibility committees, liaison networks, and task forces.
- Represent ASU in external collaborations with vendors, advocacy groups, and peer institutions.
- Supervise staff, consultants, and vendors.
- Manage program budgets, contracts, and reporting to senior leadership.
- Be an example of empathy, compassion, and emotional intelligence.

- Inspire and drive meaningful change in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to support a more sustainable environment.

- Proactively explore and leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies to advance digital accessibility across ASU’s digital ecosystem.
- Leverage AI in routine tasks and contribute ideas for using AI to improve the unit’s efficiency and overall performance.
- Take responsibility for fostering a positive culture, upholding organizational values, and championing engagement in all its forms.
- Collaborate across teams and actively participate in ET/ASU events and programs.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Work with various groups regarding federal/state accessibility laws and standards (ADA, Section 504/508, WCAG 2.1 AA).
- Monitor compliance with ADA, Section 504/508, and current WCAG standards
- Conduct accessibility audits (e.g., websites, systems, mobile apps), remediation, and using assistive technologies (e.g., screen readers, captioning, alt media).
- Partner with General Counsel on risk assessments, reporting, and legal compliance.
- Review and approve technology procurements to ensure accessibility clauses in contracts.
Training, Outreach & Support
- Coordinate the design and manage training programs for faculty, staff, and content creators.
- Provide consultation and office hours to assist units with accessibility remediation.
- Maintain user-friendly resources, guides, and role-based materials (e.g., FRAME, Equidox, Siteimprove).
- Promote awareness through communications, presentations, and recognition programs.
Consulting & Stakeholder Engagement
- Offer centralized consulting on accessible design for courses, web, and enterprise platforms.
- Collaborate with across diverse and decentralized stakeholders (academic and administrative) units to integrate accessibility into workflows.
- Coordinate accessibility liaisons and facilitate unit-level accountability.
- Knowledge of ASU systems, policies, and technology infrastructure
Monitoring & Reporting
- Lead enterprise-wide reporting and dashboards on accessibility progress and compliance.
- Use tools like Siteimprove, YuJa, UDOIT, and Equidox to track remediation and inform decisions.
- Collect feedback from users to guide continuous improvement.
- Foster a positive, inclusive culture aligned with ASU and ET values.
- Manage and resolve accessibility issues that are reported
Desired Qualifications:
- Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience implementing, coordinating, and developing institutional frameworks.
- Familiarity with accessible web development (HTML, CSS, ARIA), CMS (Drupal, WordPress), and LMS (Canvas).
- Experience using accessibility testing tools (Deque, aXe, WAVE, Siteimprove).
- IAAP, CPACC, WAS, CPWA, or ADS preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to model empathy, compassion, and emotional intelligence.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Working Environment:
- Activities primarily take place in a standard, climate-controlled office environment and may involve extended periods of sitting, or moving between office spaces.
- This role involves regular use of a computer (desktop and/or laptop), including a keyboard and mouse.
- Effective communication and proficiency with a variety of technologies are essential for collaboration with the broader team.
- Regular responsibilities may require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
- Use an ASU or personal vehicle to travel to different campuses, including Downtown Phoenix, North Scottsdale, Tempe, Polytechnic, and West Valley
- Regular on-site attendance in Tempe, AZ is required for this role. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to the office.
