What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controls Engineer position at Technical Source?
Technical Source is looking for an Automation Engineer to join our Automation & PLC Services client. In this role, you’ll help design, configure, and support PLC-based control systems that power critical operations for our customers.

What You’ll Do:
- Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain PLCs for both OEM skids and custom process equipment
- Configure SCADA solutions, local historians, and integrations with 3rd-party systems (e.g., DeltaV, OSI PI)
- Develop functional requirements and detailed design documentation for automation projects
- Support FATs, SATs, and commissioning activities at customer sites
- Assist with aftermarket support including updates to control strategies, small-scale expansions, and process optimization
- Migrate existing PLC programming to Emerson Rx3i and modify GE iFIX databases/graphics as needed
- Review vendor design packages and work with contractors on panel/equipment installations
- Perform loop checks, final testing, and startup support alongside plant personnel
- Travel within NC, SC, and VA (approx. 25%)
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2 years of experience with PLC/HMI configuration, troubleshooting, and commissioning
- Familiarity with SCADA systems, control panel installations, and industrial networking
- Strong documentation skills and ability to collaborate across engineering and customer teams
- Willingness to travel regionally to support customer projects

Salary : $100,000 - $140,000
