What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Video Engineer (Systems & Design) position at Technical Multimedia Design, Inc. (TechMDinc)?
Position Overview:
The Associate Video Engineer is responsible for assisting with the engineering of video systems and subsystems at TechMDinc. Working under the direction of Project Leads and Engineers, they provide engineering solutions that meet or exceed our clients’ creative vision and needs. Associate Video Engineers draw on resources from the Engineering and Design Documentation groups to assist in the creation, specification, documentation, and delivery of compelling display solutions that are innovative, elegant, transparent, and built upon a solid foundation of rigorous engineering.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design & Engineering: Assist in the development and validation of video systems including projection studies, pixel maps, and hybrid media layouts. Collaborate with Project Leads, Engineers, and Systems Designers to translate client input into effective engineering solutions.
- Documentation: Assist in the creation of detailed technical documents such as wiring diagrams, block diagrams, mounting plans, equipment schedules (including size, weight, power, and HVAC requirements), and operation manuals.
- Collaboration: Attend meetings to understand project goals, present solutions, and manage scope changes. Work collaboratively with Project Leads, Designers, Engineers, and Project Management on system documentation
- Installation & Integration: Support field teams during installation and integration. Tasks include directing installers, configuring and calibrating equipment, troubleshooting issues, and assisting with media and show control setup.
- Testing & Adjustment: Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), perform projector/display calibration, and ensure systems meet performance requirements.
Other Responsibilities:
- Technical Support: Answer, respond to, and assign warranty and technical support inquiries, as required; Aid technical support staff in troubleshooting of installed attractions; Aid technical support staff in troubleshooting of applied technologies and platforms
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Coordinate with design, project management, and production teams to ensure cohesive project execution.
- Process Improvement: Contribute to the development of engineering standards and identify opportunities for workflow enhancements.
- Technology Research: Stay current with emerging technologies and evaluate new products for potential integration.

Requirements and Qualifications:
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in computer-aided drafting and modeling software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, Bluebeam)
- Exposure to video server platforms such as 7thSense, Disguise, Pixera, BrightSign
- Awareness of video prediction tools (e.g., Mapping Matter, Immersive Designer, manufacturer-specific software)
- Awareness of 3D modeling tools (e.g., Blender, Rhino, Maya)
- Understanding of display technologies, systems, and components
- Knowledge of IP networking and electrical power systems
- Experience with equipment database applications (Quickbase preferred)
- Exposure to project management software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications
Physical & Communication Requirements:
- Ability to move within installation environments, including stooping or kneeling to access AV equipment
- Capable of lifting equipment weighing 25–50 pounds to a height of 3–4 feet and loading into vehicles
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with internal teams and clients
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 years’ experience Video Systems and Design
- Bachelor’s Degree – Engineering, Theater, Art
- Experience with software scripting
- Awareness of video calibration tools (e.g., CalMAN, Spyder, DisplayCAL)
- Awareness of video autocalibration tools
- Exposure to 3D scanning technologies
