What are the responsibilities and job description for the SERDES Validation Engineer position at Technical-Link N. America?
Seeking a Senior Staff Validation Engineer within a Custom Compute and Storage Business Group to validate Ethernet, PCIe, and other high-speed interfaces in a post-silicon environment. This role spans the full development cycle of state-of-the-art SerDes—from IP development through productization into customer applications. It includes all aspects of SerDes engineering, including circuitry, DSP algorithms, and initialization for electrical performance and compliance.
As a high-speed SerDes Validation Engineer, you will focus on validating Ethernet, PCIe, and Die-to-Die interfaces, while supporting debug and functional testing of the PHY. You’ll have the opportunity to work on next-generation technologies such as Ethernet 224G and PCIe Gen6/7, along with other advanced high-speed SerDes solutions.
- Own high-speed SerDes validation in a post-silicon environment
- Document, execute, and report overall PHY validation for custom silicon devices
- Perform lab-based silicon bring-up and SerDes engineering focused on Ethernet/PCIe/D2D PHY functionality
- Participate in collaborative discussions to resolve technical issues
- Troubleshoot failing tests using diagnostics, hardware analyzers, and software tools
- Work with cross-functional teams to debug post-silicon and/or customer issues related to SerDes PHY
What We’re Looking For
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) with 5–7 years of experience, OR Master’s with 3–5 years
- 3 years of experience in high-speed I/O testing, debugging, and validation
- Strong hands-on experience with SerDes characterization equipment (oscilloscope, BERT, network analyzer, etc.)
- Deep understanding of high-speed SerDes, equalization techniques, and channel behavior
- Working knowledge of Ethernet and PCIe interfaces and characterization
- Experience with Python or other programming languages
- Strong problem-solving skills and ownership mindset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Nice to Have:
- Knowledge of physical and protocol layers (PIPE, PCS, MAC) for high-speed interfaces
- Experience with board design, schematics, layout, and signal integrity
